I found dvdplus.co.uk through what was then shopsmart.com (now kelkoo.com), searching for a specific DVD. This site turned out to be the cheapest option, so I gave it a go.
First impressions of the site - dvdplus.co.uk is in fact a re-direct url which takes you to shopcreator.com/mall/dvdplus. The first sign of a company run on the cheap. This didn't bother me at all though considering I was getting a film on DVD for less than it would cost me to buy on video at amazon.co.uk. My experience has been that small companies are much more eager for your custom anyway, and thus treat you much better.
The layout is poor, lacking on 'back' links, and the basket option failed on me a fair few times so I had to keep re-searching for my dvd. I finally got through to the checkout after a bit of faffing around.
This site has a stock check facility, which is quite good, I ran that for the dvd I was ordering and found they had it in stock. So I tried to place my order. At this point I was using a 33k modem and an old computer and it just wouldn't work. Quite often pages just would not load, or I'd get an error.
I gave up and waited until I had a faster computer to place my order, which was a couple of days later, at 56k, when I had no problems. I placed my order first time and received an email shortly afterward which told me my order had been sucessfully received and my dvd would be sent 'as soon as possible'.
I was also given good contact information - not only an email and my own personal tracking number, but a phone number too. I was, of course, hoping I wouldn't need these.
I gave my DVD a week to arrive, and still no sign. So I tried to check it on the website, but then remember I hadn't actually registered with them so couldn't track my purchase. That was my own fault, but annoying nonetheless.
After a fortnight and still no word, I decided it was time to chase it up. The 'as soon as possible' note meant I had no specific date of arrival, but since I knew my dvd was in stock, it should have arrived by then. So I sent an email to customer services with my tracking number.
I received a fairly swift reply from the customer services co-ordinator, who informed me my order was 'stuck in the failed payment processing and so not despatched'. This was perhaps down to my credit card failing, but having received an email telling me my order was received and my product would be dispatched, I wasn't expecting this. False information is a real pet hate of mine. However, I was assured my dvd was now 'freed up' and on it's way to me.
I recieved it two days later.
So my opinion on this site - Bad layout, but good customer service. My problem was solved quickly, but I did have to make them aware of it. It would be nice if they sorted out the error that made me receive a confirmation email even though my order hadn't processed.
The moral of the story : make sure you pay your credit card bill on time (!), REGISTER if you're going to buy something (perhaps they should make this compulsory?) and use a decent computer.
