I have been using the FREE fax receiving service for the last 12 months and now can confidently recommend their service to friends, colleagues and CiAO readers too.
I am talking about efax.com not to be confused with efax.co.uk who would appear to charge for a similar service. With efax.com you can register for a 0870 (national rate) number and associate it with your email address.
efax.com also provide some pretty neat viewing software to download, small in size too. But of course this does mean that inbound faxes can only be read with their software, however I have no problem with this.
When you receive an fax it appears as an email with an efax attachment, the reader software contains a micro advert on the splash page. All very usable, indeed I rarely receive faxes on the fax machine now.
The biggest advantage is being able to forward faxes (as the attachment) in an email. Of course your recipient needs the viewer too!
I have found that faxes are forwarded within minutes of sending. Try a test fax to yourself.
There are lots of extra features like SMS notification, try it!
A fantastic and FREE service. Very useful.

faxme.co.uk does not require any special software so you can collect your faxes from any computer in the world. It is also free, reliable, and does not carry any advertising.

Sounds useful I'll give it a look. You don't say how quickly the faxes are forwarded in e-mail format to you though.
Advantages: Local international numbers, send and receive by email, online storage Disadvantages: Hours' delays in sending, not able to send or receive.
