The M7 e-cigarette from Royal Smokers

I reckon almost everyone's heard about an electronical cigarette already. But what is it really good for, what does it feel like and isn't it maybe even worse (healthwise) than ordinary cigarettes? That were questions I was asking myself after a mate introduced his e-cigarette to me a couple of weeks ago, so I started my own research. Entering the first big tobacco shop and asking about e-cigarettes I got this reply from the lady: "No, we don't sell them and I hope we never will, coz it's way worse than the normal cigarettes, it's even way more expensive...blabla!" This got me even more curious.

The e-cigarette consists of:
1. Battery - the long part, which in a normal cigarette would be filled with tobacco. The battery is a rechargeable Li-on and lasts approx. as long as a pack of regular smokes. In the M7 package you get only an USB charger, but it's not a problem to get an adapter for your wall socket.
2. Atomizer - this thing creates vapour by getting warm as you drag from the e-cig.
3. Cartridge - ammo for your e-cig, the cartridge hides a ball of cotton that's soaked with the e-liquid and distributes it to the atomizer. One M7 cartridge is equal to approx. 12 ordinary cigarettes.
Cartridges (or e-liquids) are available in 5 levels of nicotine - extra high (24mg), high(16mg), medium (11mg), low (6mg), zero-nicotinefree(!). That means you can choose how much nicotine you need or want as well as all kinds of flavours from coffee, chocolate, vanilla, menthol to cherry or green tea.

You will additionally need: a charger, an e-liquid or new cartridges, a fancy case ;)

The healthiness point of electronic smoking, as funny as it sounds, lies in no real smoke production, because no burning happens. What you get instead of the smoke is a sort of vapour created from e-liquid by a little gadget named atomizer, as you drag. The e-liquid is a thick solution you apply into the cartridge. This liquid contains propylenglycol, which is a chemical solution frequently used in food production, pharmaceutics etc and is claimed to be harmless.

How does it work?
Simply assemble the three parts together, you can't make a mistake there. There's no need to turn the cigarette on or anything like that. It's only on when you actually drag from it and a little diode in the tip of the battery gives red light, to simulate the burning. As long as the battery's charged, you can smoke as much as you want to. However, if the e-cigarette decides you've done way too much of it at once, its tip will flash approx. 30 times to let you know it's about tme to have a break. Useless to add this has never happened to me, isn't it? As long as there's enough e-liquid, your e-cigarette will produce quite a real-looking "smoke". When you need to recharge, i.e. the liquid from the cartridge is used up, you have two options - grab a new cartridge or apply a drop of the e-liquid onto the cotton ball. You can't do nr. 2 forever, however, coz the cotton also gets bit not-so-fluffy and then doesn't communicate well with the atomizer, which results in less effective vapour production.

Is it supposed to help you stop smoking?
Well, depends what you want. It's possible to buy cartridges with different nicotine level and start from the highest, going to the lowest and finally zero nicotine, if you want to stop smoking. In my opinion that could be an effective way to help you get rid of your nicotine addiction. But primarily an e-cigarette is an alternative source of nicotine. A healthier way to satisfy your need, because you get pure nicotine without side products of burning.

Biggest advantages (apart from healthwise)
I find it awesome that I don't smell like smoke, I imagine that all people around me would e-smoke only so my clothes wouldn't reek of tobacco and I wouldn't be subjected to passive smoking.
You don't bother people around you. My partner's a non-smoker and she already loves my e-cigarette. Your partner, children, pets and computer don't suffer.
You need a charger and you need cartriges, but you don't need a lighter and ashtray, you don't need to worry where to drop that butt end.
You can e-smoke anywhere. I never smoked at home coz I would hate the nicotine odour there, but now I dont need to worry about that as I certainly don't find it annoying to smell cherry in my room. I particularly appreciate this in the bedroom.
You won't burn your clothes or self if you're too drunk and try to kill the cigarette on your arm :p

Disadvantages
This might sound funny, but if this way of smoking (provided no-nicotine cartridges are used!) means no risk to health, then someone might start thinking about selling it to kids, which sounds like building up a bad habit.
Price - depends on how much you smoke, if you are a heavy smoker, then the price of an e-cigarette and its accessories can be an advantage.
Every type of an e-cigarette requires recommended accessories - charger and cartridges, so you'd stick to one type, but I imagine certainly some cartridges must be interchangable.
Danger: If you like playing with new gadgets just like I do, be careful with an e-cigarette. I'm sure I've done more e-smoking than I would normally smoke, just because I find the e-cig such a cool thing that I have to have it with me all the time!

The M7 creates vapour thick enough to be mistaken for a real cigarette, until your friends notice you didn't use a lighter and the cigarette dosn't become shorter.
The battery lasts about 5 hours of smoking, charging 2 hours. The e-cigarette is almost one centimeter longer (this one I've got, but it's also available in king-size) than a classic cigarette and also equally thick, but the real difference as you hold it is in the weight, obviously. It weighs almost 10g, which certainly is a big difference, but also a matter of getting used to it (and training your finger muscles). I love the design of M7, very classy black with a golden circle and line on the battery, it's also available in white. In the package you receive one battery, one atomizer, USB charger, 5 cartridges and a nice black and silver case which holds the assembled e-cigarette and two extra cartridges.

My experience
I'm in no way a heavy smoker, more like a social smoker who likes sth (and sth cute, if possible) to hold in my hand when I go for a drink with friends. When I tried the e-cigarette for the first time before buying it, it felt funny, it was smoking and at the same time it wasn't. I asked the shop assistant which level of nicotine I had in the test cartridge and I was really surprised to find out it was the extra high, because I felt nothing! That's what a difference it makes to inhale all the burn products of which the real smoke consists and inhaling the vapour from the e-cig! I intend to erase nicotine from my life, so I took only the no nicotine cartridges and liquid and have to say the menthol is really tasty! So far the e-cigarette works great for me, I'm not atracted to the smelly tobacco business anymore. I did spend a pretty penny buying this gadget, I think with my frequency of smoking this would be like a half-year's worth of normal cigarettes, but I do feel good for investing into my health.
I think an e-cigarette might be a good idea for a gift to someone who's always been trying to stop smoking without success, of just a friend smoker who you want to push into healthier lifestyle. If the e-liquids won't be proven harmful in a way or another, it's great we've got a pro-health way of smoking.
