I have been buying and selling on Ebay for just over a year now and I am constantly amazed at not only the selection of items on offer but also the fact that no matter what you are selling there is someone on this planet who seems to want it. I have sold CD's to Lithuania, model cars to Japan, movie posters to Canada, DVD's to someone 2 miles from me. If more than one person wants what you've got the bids can reach amazing amounts. I have sold a few items for over £100 UK pounds that I had expected to fetch about £15. Some items have been looked at a few hundred times during the course of the auction. The same is true if you are buying things. If you collect something obscure there is almost certainly someone else collecting or selling the same items. It is this sense of community which in many ways helps and the feedback system keeps both buyers and sellers legitimate and trustworthy as they know that they have a valuable reputation at stske. A few tips if you're selling. Don't start your asking price too high (get bidders in early and you are more likely to start a bidding war), be prepared to answer some strange questions on the items you are selling, be reliable and prompt at all times, include a picture of the item, buy a few things first to get a feel of the system and also to get some feedback beside your name. If bidding, leave your bid as late as possible to avoid getting outbid, this also allows you to avoid unnecessary impulse purchases and can save you money in the long run, also send your payment off promptly. Overall I highly recommend this site not only for the potential for making money and savings, but also the amazing choice of over 4 million items for sale at any one time. The key to any auction site is momentum (the more choice, the more users so more choice and so on) and this is the only auction site that has it...
I agree with bidding on items as late as you possible can as it gives you plenty of time to decide if you want it and it can avoid pushing the price up faster as some bidders are attracted to itwems that have high no's of bids on them.
