I had a play on internet auction sites one bored rainy Sunday afternoon. I have to say , they are very addictive. e-bay and Qxl.com, were in my opinion the best 2, and most easy to find your way around. If I were made to choose "gun to yer head", I would have to go for e-bay. Registration takes a couple of minutes, and they send you login details to your e-mail almost instantaneously, so you can buy immediately. Be wary though, I almost fell into the "oh, I neeeed that" trap much too often, and bid on all sorts of bizarrities. You can get anything from a dining room table, to old Roy of the Rovers comics, and some mighty fine bric-a-brac , if you're in to that kind of thing. I bid for and bought a Balinese carved statue of Ganesh for my friend who's an R.E. teacher - but don't tell her, it'll spoil her xmas present!. The cost of this delight?, a mere £1!!. You can keep tabs on items you have bid for, or want to bid on in the future, and each item has an end date and time, so you can nip in there with your winning bid at the last minute!. If you win, you contact the seller by e-mail to exchange payment/sending details. If this makes you a bit wary, each dealer is given a rating, so you can see how reliable they are. All in all, tremendous fun - give it a go!!

Advantages: Good categories, large and courteous user base. Disadvantages: Charges rather high and unexplained, forms take while to fill in and get used to, many features not available to first time users.
