I have been a member of ebay for about 6 months now and I cannot praise the site enough. If you love a bargain or are looking for something that is no longer available in the shops, then this is the place for you. Firstly, it is totally free to join which is always a bonus.
BECOMING A MEMBER :-
The sign up process is very simple. Fill in a form with your details and choose a user name and password. Thats it.. you are now a member. You will have access to a usefull page called "my ebay". This allows you to keep track of items you are bidding on, selling and your account. Buyers and sellers are encouraged to leave feedback about transactions that are made between them. They rate Positive, Neutral or Negative. You will have a certain coloured star dependant on your number of feedback.
BUYING :-
There are so many catogories for you to choose from. videos/DVD's/CD's, Baby Items, Jewelery, Household Items, Electrical and Collectables are just a few of them. Once you have clicked on a catagory to browse it will give you the total number of items in that section. You can choose to view all of them or narrow it down by selecting "ending today" "new today" etc. If you are looking for something specific and are unsure what catagory it will fall under, you can do a quick search by typing the name of item. Bidding on an item is simple. At the bottom of each item page there is a "place your bid" section. You can either enter the minimum bid, or you can enter the maximum amount you want to bid and ebay will rebid for you up to that amount. Don't worry, your maxim bid is kept private. Ebay will notify you if you are outbid. At the end of auction, the seller and highest bidder contact each other (within 3 days) to arrange transaction.
SELLING :-
If you want to sell on ebay, the process is just as simple. Choose the catagory you want it to placed in (there is an option to place in 2 catagories) write a small description and the starting price for the auction. If you have access to digital camera or a scanner, you can upload a picture to help it sell better. Ebay make a small charge for placing an item on the auction. Min 15p / Max 60p. At the end of auction they will take a small commision charge on the final sale price. The precentage really depends on the amount it sells for. But just to give you an example. I had alot of baby stuff to sell the other month, I made around £150, I have just received my ebay invoice for £13.00, so its quite small. You can choose the length of your auction (3,7 or 10 days). Should the highest bidder not pay up (it has happened to me only once) you can inform ebay, who after about 3 weeks will refund you their commision that they took from the sale.
I would really recommend this site if you have anything to sell or are on the look out for bargain or something different. Genarally the members are really nice to deal with.
