Before I start this, I just want you to know that this isn't really an opinion on Ebay. Wait! Don't go yet! I CAN SAVE YOUR BANK ACCOUNT FROM EXTINCTION! I'm not going to concentrate on telling you about how to join Ebay, or what you need to do, rather the effects of Ebay on the consumers.
Now that I look at it ('it' being my whole Ebay experience), I can safely liken it to a well-formed habit of smoking. Just like cigarettes, the first thought that goes through your mind is "I wonder what it's like?" The first couple of goes are troublesome, but after a while it all makes sense, and you think you're cool.
And then the addiction kicks in.
I've been an Ebay user for a mere 4 months, but I don't think I can stop. I won't stop. It's like the ultimate black market store. You've just got to know where to look, be it locally or overseas, like a junkie after the ultimate hit. Originally I was after the ultimate scam/money making exercise, but I got side tracked about $240AU.
So far I've bought MDK2, Ferrari Challenge, Daytona USA, Sega GT, Marvel VS Capcom 2 and Worms Armageddon, and I've sold Le Mans 24 Hour (all Dreamcast games) and they all went with out a hitch. I've bid on hundreds of auctions. I think I like the rush more than the actual buying part, cause like most suckers in the world, money is tight.
But I can't stop.
It's so easy to do, and so accessible.
It's good, cause I'm lazy, and its there within arms length. But it's bad, because it's there, within arms length.
So what do I do? It's a great site, a bit frustrating at times, but it makes sense. Overall easy to navigate and if you know what you're doing, you're set. Maybe that's my problem, I'm too smart. Or maybe it's the fact that the serious sellers will bend over backwards to help you out. Or is it that I've got no self-control and this is a tool of the devil himself to bring me undone?
Maybe it's all of the above.
Be warned, for as William Blake said "We do not know what is enough until we know what is more than enough"

Good op. The fact that you warned how addictive it is and I know I should really stay away has now made me want to take alook more than ever!
