Twas a cold (aren't they always?) June night, when I'd finally succumbed to ebays charms, everyone was always going quiet for long times in the chat-room then coming back and saying that they'd been on the site so thinking that it wouldn't get this bad I toddled off to see what the fuss was all about, it was free to sign up and I had a bit of spare time on my hands so of course we went through the joining procedure, it was simple enough, just throw in some personal details, choose a username and away you go, or so I thought - some little toerag had already signed up as my chosen user-name so we went for another name I'm known by on the web - TheOctoberSwimmer, and away we went, sometimes I wish we didn't you know.

Now why would I wish that I didn't get involved with the site?, well I'm totally addicted - in fact I've actually got the site open in another window right now (I really have to have that pot dog - joking Ken), but the first buy always started so innocuously, for once I'd signed in I browsed around a bit, promising myself that I wasn't going to bid on the first night, oh no I was just going to get a feel for the site, I'm not like all those fools in the chat-room who bid straight away on things they don't need - well guess what, whoopsie I am, see I'm a collector of all kinds of Movies and TV memorabilia and luckily ebay had a category for just that kind of product, I promised myself that I wouldn't look, but one quick peek wouldn't hurt, would it?, well of course I was in heaven when I went to look, and soon found an item that had me itching to click on the Bidding button - an Austin Powers Dr Evil figure no less, it was going cheap, very cheap (£3.00) - this was something I couldn't miss so I did it - I bid £3.20, imagine my shock when I went to the My Ebay page and realised I'd won, I got such a tingle in my stomach at the thought and that was it I was hooked.

Before long I was back on again, clicking like a very clicky person whos not clicked for a while, I was bidding here, there and everywhere - that CD I'd never found, a rare signed picture of Mariah Carey, yet more action figures from Movies and TV, it was no good - my e-mail inbox was already over-flowing before I'd visited ebay, drastic measures were required, I switched all my e-mails to another address and began to use my ntlworld address solely for ebay - right now I average 10-15 e-mails a day, ranging from 'you've been outbid' (gaaaaaaaah perish the thought), 'heres my address to send me the cheque' (you sure you won't accept a post-dated cheque?) to 'you're watching this item and its about to close' (should I bid?).

A lot of you are probably reading right now and going 'pah thats not addiction', well I haven't even started yet, see here was my low point, I was on holiday and actually on-board a ferry headed to Bruges in Belgium when all of a sudden a scary thought crossed my mind, I'd won an auction and forgotten to send the cheque, now most sane people would have just put it down to bad luck, but oh no not me, trusty mobile phone to hand I quickly sent an SOS text message to a fellow ciao writer/ebayer requesting thier help, they just had to get in touch with the guy for me, I didn't want bad feedback because I hadn't paid up when I should, I didn't care that I was on holiday and shouldn't be bothering myself with these things, this was important it was ebay dagnammit, luckily the dooyooser had thier phone turned on and sent me a message back saying they were glad to help - but alas we couldn't find an e-mail address anywhere, and then disaster struck, my mobile was out of range, I couldn't find out what was going on and all through the beautiful sights of Bruges, I was worrying about wether I'd get my Mulder action figure (sad?, yup and proud of it), in fact if it wasn't for the fact that I was supposed to be having fun in Bruges I don't know how I'd have coped, luckily I came back and found that the seller hadn't even bothered to get in touch, but believe me I was scared.

Now then not long after selling I got my bank statement in, and I'll tell you what ebays expensive, I had to do something to deal with this and guess what, I found the wonders of selling, it started off with a few playstation games that I don't play any more, then a CD or 2, then some videos, now I go hunting for bargains in the hopes of making a profit on ebay - latest conquest, X-Files Season 7 - it cost me £14.99, £25 anyone?

So where are we now then?, well when I go online, ebays my homepage, when I sit on the site nasty words emit from my mouth as some little toerag outbids me by 20p, I literally have to check the site every 5 minutes, just in case I'm being outbid, and of course we have to search for bargains, just incase.

If you'll excuse me now I have to go - someones dared to outbid me on the Spooks CD.

P.S. it pays to write you know, I reviewed ebay on ciaos main competitor dooyoo, and got an e-mail a couple of weeks ago asking me to write for ebay themselves in return for an ebay goodie bag, good no?

I started as Auburnsue selling stuff before we moved house and I still use this name for bits and pieces, but I have now opened a shop called Braemargifts and it's doing quite well! So I guess I'm addicted! Susan

Hi :-) I too got offered a 'goodie bag' in return for my Ebay dooyoo review. After I was told what was in this 'goodie bag' I wasn't so sure why it was called a 'goodie bag' lol! My fiance said I should have gotten a few free bids instead! Yeah right! lol!
