I started off buying a item from ebay following a friends recommendation and found it really easy. I was a little confused at first about how the bidding process worked though. You have to enter the price you are willing to pay which may be higher than the starting price, then as long as nobody else bids, you would win the item for the starting price. If somebody else places a bid, the price jumps up in increments at different levels until it reaches the high price you placed as a bid until you are overtaken in price or outbid. It can be a bit confusing at first, but once you see the bidding process ongoing, it sort of falls into place. My first experience of selling was enough to get me hooked though. I sold some weight lifting bars that were new that I had never used and were still in the box. I sold them for £5 more than what the guy could of gone to Index and bought them for. Amazing what people will buy and pay for items. The catagories are endless and can be a bit confusing at times but it is worth searching out to find what you are looking for. One thing to look out for is 'spoof' email which I have had trouble with in the past. Ebay will never ask you to click on a link in an email to verify your account or other such things which the spoof emails do, they are trying to get your details. They have a very good tutorial which you can access to learn how to deal with non genuine emails. If in doubt, you can send the email to ebay@spoof.com and they will check it out for you and inform you very quickly if it is genuine or not. The same goes for paypal emails. Genuine emails always address you as Dear Mrs XXXXX or whatever name you are registered as. The fake email are always Dear paypal member. Again, if in doubt, you can forward them to ebay and they will get them checked and let you know if they are genuine or not. It is better to check the email out before clicking on any link than to do so and get conned out of your password and worse your account details/paypal fund. Beware!!
As a previous regular car boot sale seller, I am now definately the converted to ebay. It is so much easier to sell at my leisure, no more getting up at the crack of dawn on a sunday am to find it's raining, and unloading the car again. I also think you get more for your items selling on ebay than at a car boot, where people generally want something for nothing. I now visit car boot sales to find a bargain that I can sell on ebay to make a profit on. I now offer all my items to a worldwide market and have sent items as far as Toyko and Australia. A teapot made it all the way to Australia and boy, was I glad of the email to say it had got there safely. Give it a try, but be warned, when you start receiving money through the letter box, it can become very addictive!!!

I have bought and sold on E-Bay many times, have also had my account hacked into and had someone selling a quad bike against my name. Still enjoy doing car boot sales though, especially if it’s a nice day and you can sit in the sun (Have made over £300 in the last couple of weeks). Jane x

I've been with ebay for several years and yes, it is addictive and I've had the spoof e-mails. Much better than car-boot sales - done't them too.. Good review.. Derek
