I started selling on Ebay about 3-4 years ago and really like it there. Its easy to list your items with a walkthrough listing wizard and there are a plethera of customisable options such as Gallery types, bold, featured etc that you can apply to your listing to make it stand out more if you wish.
There is a fee structure for listing but you can list with a picture for 10p per item if you want - its basic but the thing about Ebay is its so amazingly popular with buyers you will still sell your item.
Thats the bonus for me - about 90% of what I list on Ebay SELLS FIRST TIME within 7-10 days and sells for a good price too, The place is buzzing with buyers and even starting an item at 99p will often get you 10-20 bids and end up selling for its true value.
You can also add a BUY it NOW price and sell your item even faster if you dont only want to go down the auction route.
As a seller you can see how many people are Watching your item, and as a buyer you can set up your OWN Watch list and will be Emailed as items you are bidding on, or would like to bid on, approach there completion time.
The feedback system is great and I really like the new amendments thay have made which allow you to judge how expensive a sellers postal rates are and how quickly they mail out items.
I use Paypal to buy and sell which works for me, although it does have pretty high fees, it saves me mailing out cheques and going to the bank.
I have tried a number of other Auction Sites for Selling and Buying - I found Ebid to be the worst where it claims to be fee free but in fact you pay a membership fee upfront. Also Ebid just doesn't have a fraction of the traffic Ebay does - if you list for 99p you will be very lucky to even get ONE bid ! I am also trialing Tazbar and I am pretty impressed so far, it really IS free there but again sales are slow. Amazon also allow you to sell bt their fees are crazy high !
So I would say the best site still remains Ebay. Sure you pay a listing fee and you pay Final value fees and on a £5 item this is about 40p or on a £50 it can be £1-2. BUT its well worth it - your item WILL sell, in a secure well managed environment, and you can feel happy in the fact that you got the BEST price you could anywhere on the Web.
Some people complain that the support staff are unhelpful, and I have found myself confronted with automated responses in the past as well, but if you actually READ what they send you you can usually get a human response in 24 hours. And to be honest the site is so easy to use you really wont need that much support.
5/5 can't really fault it.

...and did you know that you can link your eBay id to your Ciao username here, and your eBay auctions will show on your "Auctions" tab on Ciao? Not a lot of people know that... :o)
