Introduction ---------------- Wow, www.ebay.co.uk, what a success it is. In fact its starting to turn out to be something thats so successful it becomes unique in its own right. Almost everyone i know has heard of ebay and most of them are frequently using it to buy, sell, watch or bid on. Its pure genius as it enables you to sell stuff you have just lying around never being used online. As they say "one mans junk is another mans treasure" and this couldnt be more true on ebay.
What Is Ebay ------------------ Ebay is basically the most popular online auction site ever to have existed. Its members are immense in size, the categories avaliable to sell or buy on are vast in variety and the ease of use of the whole site make it a pure joy to use. On average i have found that there is 60,000,000 items listed on ebay at any one moment and 5000000
new items are listed daily. This gives you an idea of how big and popular ebay really is. There is always a bargain to be found on ebay whatever your looking for. Plus if your wanting to earn a little cash (or a lot depending on what you have to sell) then ebay is for you.
My Personal Experience With Ebay ------------------------------------------------ I have been a member with ebay since the 21st of November 2005 and have made around 1800 pounds in total i think (its a rough estimate) i have 256 positive feedbacks from members showing they appreciate me through business we have done and i have bought and sold man, many things. I still have much to sell and buy so there is no stopping me now. My ebay user name is = geddes-i, just as it is with dooyoo so look me up if you get the chance.
Is It Good ? --------------- Ebay is very simple to use and understand. Its sign up process is easy and the whole idea behind it is fantastic. Its great fun to sell and the buzz you gett from bidding is even better. The amount of bargains to be found is tremendous and the things you can actually sell is very surprising. Its a fantastic way to make money or get bargains making the whole idea very worthwhile.
Negative Points ---------------------- The only problem with ebay tends to be the high pricing of the fees (subject to what you sell and how) the overall fees can come out expensive. Plus depending on how you choose to sell your items can result in the fees rising (by using buy it now, adding a reserve, specifing a start time etc, these all add to increase in fees) plus if you are using paypal to receive your money (like i do) then they even take a fee of you for every transaction that goes through ebay. However paypal is really the best method to use for receivng payment due to its safety.
My Bad Experience -------------------------- I have only ever had one problem with ebay and that was when i stupidly fell for a scam. I got sent out a spam e-mail from a supposed ebay member who was interested in one of my items (or so i thought) I opened the e-mail and i was asked to sign in to my ebay account which i did (everything up to this point looked just like ebay and was very official) i signed in to find nothing. I just thought that the e-mail didnt work so i deleted it and carried on with my day. By this time it was already too late, what i had stupidly done is fall for a phising scam (where third parties send out official looking e-mails in order to obtain your personal details.) They accessed my account and listed hundreds and hundreds of products through my account. My fees were up to a whopping £897.00 at one point due to this. I was completely shocked and immediately reported this to ebay (after getting round changing my password again and answering my security questions proving i was who i say i was) ebay thankfully to my absolute relief got right on the case and removed all the listings from my account and removed the fees (£897.00 worth) and then gave me a rundown of what had happened. I must say since that happened i have been so much more safety conscious online. Other than this problem though ebay has been a pure joy :)
Overall ---------- So there you have it, ebay.co.uk = fantastic for so many reasons, bad for so little. Other than the fees being quite annoyingly high and greedy and the occasional e-mails that you get sent trying to get your personal details, ebay is great. If your looking for a bargain or looking to sell then ebay is for you. Its safety is improving and as long as your careful and use common sense you wont fall for any scams meaning you have nothing to worry about. And if the worst happens as it did with me, ebay are very helpful and will easily sort it out for you.
My Summary: A fantastic website thats great for both buyers and selers everywhere !

I agree, eBay is a great place and very addictive. I'm very worried, though, about their new owner's proposed hare-brained scheme to turn it into just a shopfront for High Street shops selling new cheap tat because he doesn't like its 'flea market' image of second-hand goods. The idiot has missed the whole point, which is that a 'flea market' venue is what eBay members WANT - if we want cheap High Street tat, we can go to the High Street for it! I've been a member since 2005 too, and had an eBay shop until last September when they hiked up the small sellers' fees so dramatically that it was no longer possible for me to make a profit. As far as buying goes, I've bought lots of wonderful stuff on there, some of it quite rare or obscure, that you'd never find in the High Street, and that's the beauty of eBay!
Advantages: Wide range of items, cheap, easy to use, saves you a lot of money Disadvantages: I think I might be addicted.....non-paying bidders.....fees
