Advantages: Free listings, bargains to be had, some nice features Disadvantages: Not many bidders, less choice of goods than eBay, high 'Security Subscription', PPPay integrated into the system
I am an eBay addict, so what am I doing writing about a rival auction site? I stumbled on eBid by accident, being desperate for an item that wasn't available on eBay. I did a search on google for auction sites, and so found eBid. I have been using the site for a couple of years now.
In case anyone reading this does not know about eBay either, both sites are on-line auction sites where you can buy and sell almost anything - from a pencil to a car, ... ...You have to register to bid or sell, and the URL for ebid is www.ebid.co.uk or www.ebid.tv. They have recently launched in the USA too, so you may see some international auctions on the site now.

Advantages: Single payment then free listing & no selling fees for store owners Disadvantages: Not all sellers seem to compare their prices before listing
...- Pay a visit to eBid.co.uk and dip your toes into a free bronze membership. This is enough to get you started. Take all the time in the world to browse and become acquainted with the feel of the site, navigating it, searching through the categories, investigating the 6000+ stores, and then try a few bids on items that take your fancy. eBid is more of a trading community than a multi-national trading machine. There aren't thousands of shareholders ... ...possible opportunity to offer bargains that may not be financially feasible to offer elsewhere. Those sellers, I am sure, will meet the demands of the buyers. Use the 'ask seller a question' or the forums to contact sellers and make them an offer. If they have what you want, there's plenty of scope for good old-fashioned bartering. EBid, which is now available in USA, Canada, Ireland and Australia, has the potential to become the next generation ...

Advantages: NO SELLING FEES Disadvantages: A NEW SITE NOT MANY HAVE HEARD OF THERFORE NOT AS MUCH CHOICE.
This IS the new 'ebay'.
Many years ago, I discovered ebay and quickly became a devotee, having several times created and deleted accounts for one reason or another. Over my time on there I became more and more disgruntled with it. This is due, partly because of the new meanness of the buyers who seem to no longer delight in getting a bargain at a good low price, but who now seem to have devised buying strategies which include, watching an item until ... ...ensuring that they only pay the starting price.
All very well if you are a buyer, but if you are hoping to sell and make some pocket money or holiday funds, which people on low incomes sometimes have to resort to, then its a very different story.
By the time the site has deducted its fees and paypal (if chosen as a method of payment) take theirs, the money one has made quickly reduces.
This latest fee raising ( planned soon) lead me to look else ...

Advantages: Still undiscovered territory so stake your claim while you can Disadvantages: It's all so hush-hush!
****For Buyers***** This is a great site for buyers because so many buyers have their noses stuck in Ebay that they often forget that there are great bargains to be had on other auction sites out there! Since the Ebay fee increases, many Ebay sellers have flocked over to Ebid as it's free for them to list. And as it's free for sellers to list on Ebid, many of them pass on these savings to their customers. Just looking through many of the categories ... ...bid to impossible prices on Ebay, are still sitting at a diddly squat 99p on Ebid - and so many buyers are missing out on deals like these because they won't venture out beyond their comfort zones. Don't get me wrong. I am an Ebay addict and love it to bits. I sell and buy on Ebay and it is just so fun and addictive. But I would say that Ebid is growing by the second and each day sees more and more new items added and many at bargain prices. If you're ...

Advantages: FREE!!! And 100% excellent customer service! Disadvantages: needs to make potential users more aware of it's presence
As a keen eBay user, but SICK of the fees imposed on almost everything when selling, I decided to look for an alternative. I found all the usual ones, but none held any interest for me, especially as they were smaller, had way less buyers, but still charged fees.
Then I found eBid. Which was 100% free to list items, with NO Final Value Fees. In January 2003 I joined and listed a few bits and pieces. I didn't really expect much to come from it at ... ...although the range of items listed was very varied and interesting enough for me to place some bids, and I found the site very user-friendly. I sold a few bits and bobs, and I was happy to list my items quietly and let them run, as the BIG BIG plus for eBid was that it was FREE. Completely and utterly free.
Then, in June 2003 eBay, simultaneously with imposing VAT, put their fees up. 5p here, 10p there, even a £20 price hike on Front Page Featured ...
