Advantages FREE, fantastic support, friendly forums for help and advice... FREE!
Disadvantages not enough people know about it!
Hi,
I am a member (buyer and seller) in several auction sites (ebid, ebay, QXL.com, amazon etc) but I'd just like to say out of every auction site I have came across so far - ebid is the best! The first distinct advantage it has is that its FREE!
Yes you read it right - you can sell an item on there without paying any listing, selling or membership fees. Even opening up your own shops free! You do have options where you can upgrade your listings much like ebay but the prices are so cheap I upgrade on every auction. (2% final value for gallery or 40p for a FRONT PAGE FEATURED AUCTION!). I dont have to worry about relisting my items as I have an option that does it for me automatically. This is all rather unlike ebay where I pay around 15% of my total income to them (after listing, final value and gallery fees). So should I give an auction site £15 out of every £100 I sell or use another, in my opinion better auction site, and have the option to list for free or have features in my auctions for £2 cost for every £100 I sell. Not forgetting that even if your items dont sell on ebay, you still had to pay to list them in the first place - so potentially you could list 100 different items (20p just to list) but only sell 3. You'd then be out of pocket as you would still have to cough up the listing fee.
But equally as good for buyers - as the sellers dont have to pay ridiculous fees the buyer gets a bargain as sellers on ebid can afford to sell items cheaper than they do elsewhere.
The second main advantage for buyers and sellers is the level of support ebid offers! It is run by Gazza and Mark - both of whom must never get any sleep! Virtually as soon as a question is posed to them they are on the case straight away with an answer, this also includes any requests for help left on the forums - they are on the ball all the time! I have been with ebid for at least 4 years as a seller and in that time I have never had to wait more than a couple of hours to one of my many questions left at the support desk or on the forums. Other sites have left me 'dangling' for over a week for similar questions! The ebid forum is the friendliest, and has the most well behaved community, I have ever come across - in auction sites and elsewhere. The people on there go out of their way to help you with any problems you may come across, have great ideas on how to add extras to your auctions and how to promote your auctions outside of ebid.
Its layout and design is wonderful, being simple to use, follow and understand. And the links actually lead to where they are supposed to go! (shock horror - none of that annoying re-direction as with some other auction sites).Problematic people are dealt with quickly and efficiently - when people are deliberatley selling fakes trying to pass them off as real in their auctions they are investigated quickly and given the flick if they are in the wrong (unlike some other auction sites that make too much money from scores of these people who inflict the buying community with £1000's of useless junk fakes every year).

A very bubbly and enthusiastic review! I totally agree that EBid is a great site and it's a pleasure to use. I must say that since the revamp, Ebid has become even better. Plus they have a hottie for a Managing director! :-)

An exceptional review covering ALL aspects of THE auction site to be at ! If I wasn't already a member I'd be joining immediately after reading such glowing praise :-)
In response to the poster below. It's completely free to list for standard auctions and you only pay a small 3% Final Value fee IF the item sells. HIgher-tier memberships are entirely optional. Platinum members have NO listing fees and NO final value fees for life. Turnover might not be as high as on Ebay, but profit is much higher because of all the fees you save.
