Advantages: none unless you like hassle Disadvantages: books are not best price -they will hassle you to buy
I would not reccommend you join this club or any other associated bookclub owned by Book Club Associates (BCA).The initial offer seems attractive (3 books for £1 each) and according to the website there is no further commitment to buy. But after that you find that the prices for further books are not cheaper than other web booksellers, and worse, despite the 'no commitment' offer, when you don't order further books they threaten to charge you the ... ...to get me to pay 'penalty charge' of £70.) Also you have to keep refusing the monthly 'recommended book' otherwise it turns up unsolicited on you doorstep. It has taken me 8 months of complaints to get them to remove the penalty charge and that only happened after I wrote to my MP. Reccommend that before joining you read the many complaints about them at :

Advantages: You get to spend a long time on the phone to them Disadvantages: They're staffed by dishonest delinquents
My experience of ETSP seems not entirely different from another ciao member. I was sent books I didn't order in April, I tried to use their collection service after a very long await on the 'customer service line' and was promised that I would not be charged and books collected shortly.
I was then sent a bill for the books. So I phoned up had to the same conversation again and was promised the same thing.
It's now August. I've had the same conversation ... ...concerned and promptly done nothing.
I then asked what the return address was and posted then back myself (at a cost of almost £5) with a covering letter etc.,…. I've today received a letter telling me, my account is being referred to Debt Collection Agency.
Obviously I phoned … what else can I do? I was told that this is 3rd record of me phoning...(???) and 'that something should have been done'.
Great.
I now have to complete a 'Claim form' ...

Advantages: none so far Disadvantages: very slow reply, giving a feeling that they don't care for customers
Etsp.co.uk gives you a first introductory offer - which is very attractive. That's why I signed up.
I waited and waited, and no books were sent to me. I wrote them a few times, but no reply. Instead, a few weeks later, I received their letter asking me to pay for the delivery charge, even though I still received no books at this stage.
4 months passed, and I gave up the hope of receiving the books, and of receiving their reply.
And suddenly another ...

Advantages: good initial service Disadvantages: then it all goes downhill
I signed up to etsp last year after seeing three books at 99p each with essentially no catch. They advertise this in many magazines (i.e. Time). From what I know you normally wait several weeks before any item you have ordered arrives.
The biggest weakness with etsp is that they send you items because you did not decline them. This system is absurd.
I asked for my account to be closed in January 2004, and yet they still have not. They sent me a ... ...I never ordered, wanted,or should have received, they cannot close my account. I think the 4 months in between me asking for my account to be closed and them sending me packages should be enough for them to be in the wrong.
However, contacting them is impossible. They send you letters, but don't reply to yours. They don't reply to your emails either, and their phone service is just an annoying voice repeating information you already know and giving ...

Advantages: Excellent Joining Offer Disadvantages: Let Me Out of Here
...later, a letter arrives. eTSP.co.uk - a letter saying I have no outstanding balance and some brochures. Not a problem... straight in the bin.
Next month, a letter arrives, and a book?! eTSP.co.uk - outstanding balance £7.29! On closer inspection there is an editors choice, which you have to opt out of each month or you automatically receive the book, darn!
So anyway, I thought my mistake, should be easy to rectify. Ring up the customer service ... ...After about half an hour of pressing buttons it tells me that the automic service is having technical difficulties and now I have speak to a real person. Within 30 seconds of speaking to the person I had done the following: found out that although the service has no commitments they do ask you receive 6 months of magazines, so I asked to send back the editors choice, and then closed my account.
Finished?
No, they picked up the book, no problems. ...
