I have tried a few online games to date but eve online is something new and I feel it will grow into a lot more than its sum.
The basic control interface for the game is easy enough to understand and there is a tutorial when you first start playing the game which is very helpful in getting a basic feel for the controls and a few basic missions under your belt as well as some spending money.
I would recommend that you take the time to do the tutorial.
After you have downloaded the game you can choose your race/profession or create your own character.
I would suggest you choose one of the profession available and not like me build your own character attributes as to progress in the game you have to lean new skills and this takes time a lot of time so if you start the game and choose to be a miner for example you will already poses the basic skills and be able to start training them straight away and progress to a better ship/ships equipment far quicker.
some of the skills can take over three days to increase one level and there are five levels per skill and more types of skills than I could list but basically they allow you to buy different ships/ship systems such as shields /weapons /power units mining drones battle drones to name a few.
in order to acquire any ship improvements you need the required skills and this is generally a mix of different skills and there skill levels a good tip is when you are about to go offline start training a skill that takes a while to lean as you continue to lean skills even when your offline.
The actual game environment is immense this is however compensated for buy the autopilot icon (a capital A at the bottom centre of the game screen) you can bookmark most locations and then set the auto pilot to take you there this is explained in the tutorial when you first start the game so pay attention to that part as it will be invaluable to you once you head off into space on your own!
Once you start playing the game don't be afraid to ask other more experienced players for help as you will need it and I have found that most people are willing to help.
When I singed up for the game I did so on a fourteen day free trial available from scfigames.com I don't now how long this will be available but give it a try I have now signed up on a monthly basis for about £10 a month still not sure if I will stay with the game but it is worth a look I hope this has been some help to you all and maybe I shall see you around the universe!
