Tell me about this excite then?
Well excite.co.uk has move towards a portal setting in the last few months, it says it reaches 56% of the UK internet users, you basically type in what you want to search for then choose the option you want to search in, ie UK sites, web, news, europe, photos, mp3 etc. These may seem good but behind the boring look and advertising banners, it often lists irrelevent results and huge numbers of them to!
That sounds pretty bad, what else can you do on this site then?
Well many things really the main features are "free email", "free sms", "free e-cards" and other stuff like horoscopes, people search, auctions, weather and of course loads of shopping!
Well that sounds better, what else can you tell me....
you want more eh? Well the main page of the site is full of advertising, the main source of income for excite, i most noticed this "tarot reading" at 75p / minute!. You can customise many features from what news you recieve to your shares.
What does the site look and feel like?
Well the main page looks abit gritty, lots of gray and red, it doesn't really look to together and synchronized, i think that the actual search result page looks suspiously familiar to altavistas.
OK How would you some it up then?
Well overall its a good site but not for searching, the search results are varied and the layout and presentation of the site is lacking. But if your after features which you can customise this is for you.
