Advantages: Fax and Voicemail to your inbox, well designed Disadvantages: Nothing original
The email service that Excite.co.uk provides can be described in just about one word - Average. There is nothing special to it, quite the oposite in fact. Now, I'm not saying that it is bad, in fact its actually pretty good. Simply, I'm just saying it doesn't do anything original.
Except for one. When you sign up, or after you've signed up, you can apply for a Voicemail and Fax number. "But I haven't got a fax machine" I hear you cry. "I'm not paying ... ...on my mobile" the rest of you are saying. Well, you don't need to do or have either, because Excite Voice & Fax works in quite a unique way. Well, actually there are a few other services that do the same, so its not that original but nevermind. What happens is when you are sent a fax, you get an email, with a picture of the fax that you have recevied attached to the email. You can open the attachment (I believe they are Jpegs) in whatever graphics ...

...have nothing in prinicpal against excite.com I have used this site for years and found it very useful as a search engine as well as for advertising things. But over the past few months I have had problems with my profile.
If you have an excite.com e-mail account go into it and then press the update profile, to check if the profile is actually you.
I became suspicious when I was getting e-mails with passwords for xxx sites, it turned out this was ... ...elses and everytime I contact excite.com I get a reply that has nothing to do with sorting out my profile.
I was given an explanation on how to log in and out. One saying that I was using an isp that had a virus on, the thing was I had never heard of this particular isp. Another telling to make excite.com my home page and then log into excite canada. Didn't understand that when I live in the uk.
I have sent in total now 28 e-mails to excite to ...

I'm clearly going against popular opinion here but I don't think Excite provides that great an email service. I have tried several different email providers over the years. My needs are simple: a simple address, adequate file space and reliable access. Sadly, Excite have let me down on the latter. I have experienced a number of problems accessing my excite account. It takes a long time for the site to load - which is unusual for one of the big search ... ...is reasonably customisable. You get the usual address book, mail signature, file/attachment upload, POP retrieval plus you can chose cute "new mail" icons. What has seriously annoyed me is the amount of "downtime" I have experienced. I have had a number of problems trying to access the site (inbox.excite.co.uk) nevermind logging into my account unlike zWallet (www.zwallet.com). I signed up for Excite email predominantly to handle form-processing from my website. I thought it was best to keep it separate from my home email account, as it was likely I might change that sometime in the future. The web services (provided by bravenet.com, see my other op!) require you to keep the email you register with, so I needed to have an account with a company that wasn't likely to close after a year or less.
Excite is reliable in the ... ...fold, anytime, ever. However, sometimes the server goes down at Excite which means I can't access my inbox. This can be incredibly frustrating -especially as the Excite front page (which is personalised) tells me I have mail! When you approach Excite's support team, you never (in my experience) get a reply explaining the problem.
The personalisation of your Excite front page, and the Mail hub page is straightforward. You can adjust colour schemes ...

Advantages: Quick, simple, efficient and easy to access. Whether you require to recieve your email, or to play on loopy lips, you will enjoy the service. Disadvantages: None to knowledge.

In many ways excite is like yahoo, except excite has a lot more to offer and the service is a lot less formal and more fun for you who have the 'child' streak in you. You can personalise your own page, changing colours, your greeting message, the contents, the layout of the contents, even how often you would lkike the page to refresh. On the email front, well, the service is sraight ... ...email service. Except that you are offered free voicemail as well. I have not activated mine but I ma sure it is very good (Please let me know if you have used it so I can decide whether or not to bother). You can also forward email to other accounts for free. If this was not enough on its own, there is also a free excite assistant program that you download and are able to open when on the net. It will alert you of new email, news, TV listings, the ...
