A Ciao list contains various products. Every Ciao member can create Ciao lists. Members can create their own list containing various products, or at least one single product. The Ciao list can be given a name and a description can be added. Each individual product on the list can be commented on (e.g. explanation of the product's advantages). Of course, the purpose of Ciao lists is to support the Ciao Community in gathering information on a product – after all, consumers helping each other has been the guiding idea of Ciao since the beginning. What is especially important about Ciao lists?
They should be fun! Enjoy the Ciao lists and browse through the exciting lists of our active Community members.
2. What Ciao lists exist?
In principle, there is no restriction on the number and type of Ciao lists. However, Ciao proposes six different Ciao list types. The list types are very broad and members only have to fulfill a minimum of criteria in order to create a Ciao list. The list types should make it easier to find Ciao lists. Furthermore, members get some idea why and on what products you have created a certain Ciao list.
3. And what "types of Ciao list" are there?
Ciao proposes six different Ciao lists, so-called "types". The list types are very broad and members only have to fulfill a minimum of criteria in order to create a Ciao list. Currently, the following types exist:
“Buying guide for”
Share good purchase experiences with others by listing your shopping recommendations.
You have chosen a perfect gift for someone or have been given a great gift yourself? Find great gift tips for every occasion and every kind of person or give great advice on the perfect gift to other users.
You have had a good purchase experience, have discovered a great book or have chosen the perfect gift for someone? Share your experience with other Ciao users!
You have had a bad purchase experience or have seen an awful movie on DVD? Share your experience with other Ciao users!
“My Wish list”
Which product is on top of your wish list? What should be on your gift table on your birthday? Share your wishes with Ciao users and friends and create your personal wish list.
This Ciao list leaves all possibilities open. Choose your topic, your headline. Create the list freely according to your wishes.
4. Does my Ciao list need to fulfill certain criteria?
A Ciao list needs to have a name and contain at least one product. A Ciao list can contain up to 75 products. It is recommended to add a description to the Ciao list. A user can describe his/her lists and indicate his/her personal reasons for composing the Ciao lists. A description makes it easier for other users to understand the sense and benefit of a Ciao list. Products featuring on the list must be available on ciao.co.uk. We are happy to receive your product proposal for products still missing on our website.
5. How can I create a Ciao list with a description and comments?
Only logged in Ciao members can create Ciao lists. In the navigation bar in the upper right corner of the screen the menu item “My lists” is displayed when you are logged in. By clicking “My lists” you are routed directly to the webpage where Ciao lists can be created. Enter the details in the large area in the middle of the screen: list type (via a drop-down menu), name of list, a description of the list and tags. Click on the button “Add new product to list” to add products (at least 1!). Now, you can easily search for products in the search popup and add them to the list. You can also enter a comment on this particular product.
6. Can I earn Community Points for creating a list?
Yes! 3 points are awarded for creating a list. If a Ciao list is deleted, the points will also be deleted. 1 Community point is also awarded for commenting on a list. Likewise, the points for this will be deleted if the comment is deleted. Rating a list is rewarded by 1 Ciao Community point. Tagging a list is also rewarded .
7. How can I add a certain product to a list?
Only logged in Ciao members can add products to a Ciao list. Click the button “Add product to list” when navigating on a single product page. You will then be asked to which Ciao list you want to add the respective product. Furthermore, you can also write a comment on this product. If you have not created a Ciao list yet, you can do so now. You will be asked to select the appropriate list type and to enter a list-name.
8. Can I later change a Ciao list?
In principle, all the Ciao list items can be changed later, i.e. the list type, name of list, description, tags, the products on the list, the comments on the individual products as well as the order of the products on the list.
8.1 Changing the name of list and the description
By clicking “My lists” in the menu bar in the upper right screen you are directed to a web page where all your Ciao lists are displayed. Select the list to be changed and click the “Edit” button. The list type, name as well as description can be changed. Save your changes by clicking “Save”.
8.2 Changing a comment on a certain product
By clicking “My lists” in the menu bar in the upper right screen you are directed to a web page where all your Ciao lists are displayed. Select the list to be changed and click “edit”. There, a grey text box is shown below the individual list product featuring the comment on the respective product. (If no comment has been written yet, only the “Comment” button is shown). By clicking directly on the text box or the “Edit” button you can enter a comment in the box or change an existing comment whenever you want. Save your changes by clicking “Ok”.
8.3 Changing the individual products featuring in the list
By clicking “My lists” in the menu bar in the upper right screen you are directed to a web page where all your Ciao lists are displayed. Select the list to be changed. By clicking on the icon with the hand (on the right-hand side of the product image) and simultaneously moving the mouse cursor (i.e. drag & drop) the product's position in the list can be changed and the products can be moved around.
8.4 Deleting products from the list and moving products
Individual products can also be deleted from a list. Simply mark one or several products and then click the “Remove” button. Moving individual products to another list is very similar to this procedure. Just click the “Move to” button instead of the “Remove” button (do not forget to select at least one product beforehand). Then you will be asked to which list the products should be moved.
9. How do I create a Ciao list featuring products I own?
On the individual Ciao product pages a box “I own this“ next to the stars for rating will be displayed. By clicking this button you indicate that you own this product. Then, a Ciao list named “Products I own” will be created. In principle, the Ciao list “Products I own” can contain as many products as are featured on the ciao.co.uk website. Of course, the list “Products I own” can be changed and edited just like any other Ciao list. Thanks to Ciao you keep an overview of what you own!
10. Can I create more than one Ciao list on a product?
Yes! Add a product to as many Ciao lists as you like.
11. What are private and public Ciao lists?
Private Ciao lists are only visible to the author of the list. Initially, the Ciao list “Products I own” is private. The status “Private” can be changed by clicking the button “Make list public” on the edit page. Public Ciao lists are visible to all users — no matter if they are logged in or not. Edit the list (see 8.1) and click “Make list private”, if you do not want your Ciao list to be visible to everybody.
12. How can I delete a Ciao list?
Whilst editing a Ciao list, the button “Delete” is displayed in the upper right corner of the screen. By clicking this button you will be asked whether you really want to delete this list or not. If you delete your list, also 3 Community points awarded to you for creating the list will be deducted.
13. How can I search for Ciao lists by other users?
There are several ways to view all (public) Ciao lists on the Ciao website. You can click on the Ciao list icon in the upper right part of the homepage. Alternatively, select the option “Lists” in the tabs in the upper persistent navigation bar.
You can see all (public) lists on the overview page, sort them by list type or search for lists containing products from certain Ciao categories. It is also possible to search for lists with certain tags. Alternatively, just enter a term in the search box (left hand side on the page).
