Rate
honestly and fairly and stick to your own view
Do not allow yourself to be influenced by the ratings given by other
members. Base your rating solely on how useful you, personally,
found the review to be. Please also try to remain objective: a review
may still be useful even if the author's viewpoint differs from
your own.
|
 |
Add
a comment where necessary to help the author understand your rating
If your rating is based on specific aspects of the review that you
found to be particularly useful (or useless!), it may be helpful
to explain these in a comment. This will allow other readers to
see why you would or would not recommend that they take the review
into account in their purchase decision.
|
 |
Rate
a review "exceptional" if it gives readers outstanding
advice for making a good buying decision
The review covers all aspects of the product and its user-friendliness
which would be relevant to making a product choice. All remarks
are founded on evidence from personal experience and the author
remains objective throughout. A reader could find sufficient information
here to base his/her purchase decision on this review alone.
|
 |
Rate
a review "very helpful" if it clearly supports others
in making a good buying decision
The review covers a wide range of product features and the author's
position is clearly-explained, well-structured and founded, for
the most part, on solid evidence. This review would be of great
use to somebody making a product choice, but would have to be used
in conjunction with other information sources.
|
 |
Rate
a review "helpful" if it supports readers in making a
good buying decision
The review is accurate and clear. The author may not provide complete
information but what (s)he does say is useful. The review would
give readers an idea of the quality of the product.
|
 |
Rate
a review "less helpful" if it gives somewhat inaccurate
and/or poorly presented information
The review is not always objective or founded on evidence from the
author's experience. The presentation and structure are unclear.
|
 |
Rate
a review "not helpful" if it gives inaccurate, offensive
and useless information
The review is not a helpful decision-making aid. The information
it provides is subjective and lacks foundation. Perhaps the content
contains comments which do not relate to the product and may be
offensive to other members.
|
 |
Rate
a review "off topic" if it has been posted in the wrong
place and/or does not discuss the product
Reviews relating to products in other categories, or those which
stray onto unrelated subjects should be rated "off topic".
This will let other readers know that they need not read the review
when seeking information that would be useful in a purchase decision.

Do
not rate a review before reading it carefully
Please do not rate a review on the basis of the first line. Sometimes
well-written reviews start with an outrageous claim which is later
knocked down, or weave a subtle argument whose threads are only
drawn together at the very end. Therefore, before deciding how you
will rate the review, please make sure that you have read and understood
the argument properly.
|
 |
Do
not rate other reviews unfairly to "pay back" negative
ratings of your own reviews
The rating mechanism is designed to provide readers with an objective
evaluation of the usefulness of the reviews written about particular
products. Please do not devalue and warp the rating process by basing
your rating on unrelated, personal issues as this will bias the
overall average rating of the review.
|
 |
Do
not participate in click circles
If you and your friends or acquaintances click each others' reviews
with the sole aim of increasing their ratings and raising the review
ranking, this undermines the rating system which is designed to
give readers an idea of the quality of the reviews present. Clicking
cartels are both unfair and dishonest, and members found to be participating
in them will have their membership revoked.
|
 |
Do
not attempt to manipulate the ranking of your own reviews
You may not rate reviews that you have written yourself and we would
urge you not to ask your friends to submit biased rankings of your
reviews. This defeats the point of the rating system by making it
harder for readers to distinguish useful reviews.
