Advantages: Good sound quality, funky interface Disadvantages: Won't work on older, slower machines
I needed a decent real-voice chat system to complement a web community group which I administer. At first Firetalk seemed to fit the bill perfectly, it's free (the basic version), the interface is well designed and the sound quality is very good. I tested the system using a 56K modem and it was perfectly acceptable.
The main problem arose when testing the system with older machines. It just wouldn't work! The program recommends running on ... ...processor-intensive. I didn't want anybody to be excluded from the group chats just on the basis of the age of their machine, so I chose to find another way to achieve the voice chat.
The method I eventually chose ? Yahoo clubs. The chat rooms there have voice chat built in, and it works fine on older machines too.

The program recommends running on a 233 Mhz or higher, so it clearly is very processor-intensive. Advantages: Instant private voice & text communication. Disadvantages: Sometimes hard to access if maintenance is in progress.
A few months ago a friend sent me a link to a service called "Firetalk". I had looked at a few services offering a free worldwide communication service over the internet, but most charged a fee to register or use! I was pleasantly surprised to learn that Firetalk had no cost to me apart from my phone bill! Using a microphone (not essential), or simply chatting in text opens up a whole new dimension for the user. Text messages can be sent instantly ... ...necessary a private room can be used for text or voice conversations! A favourite of mine are the various Trivia rooms where I have made numerous new friends online, and websites for each room have been set up where you can see pics of the people you meet and add your own if you wish! I spend most of my time on firetalk now and have recommended it to many friends, some of whom have purchased a PC specifically for access to Firetalk! If you have relatives ...

Advantages: no more typing. Disadvantages: none i found
Firetalk is a chat place with a slight difference, you can actually talk with people in real time. it was a bit disconcerting at first , but you do get used to it . the one draw back is if lots of people talk at the same time, you have to be a bit discaplined on here , or patiant.you have to download some software, takes about 5 mins and is easy and painless, you can type chat but to get the full feeling of the place you need to talk in real time, ...

Hi, At times I feel i need to talk, and i need to chat to someone when no body is home. It felt great that i have chatrooms on net. I love chatting and have been chatting since at least 5 years and have made loads of freinds. I was used to chatting in text until i discovered firetalk. i loved it. its gr8 and feels like on the phone and charged a net fee which in my case is free.
Firetalk is well worth downloading. One can add freinds and be notified ... ...be noted, when I speak to freinds online and they add me on the freinds list, they approach me and send me messages even while i do not want them to send it and i try to ignore them. there should be block sender option of some kind. Apart from that i would recommend anyone who want to voice chat to try using firetalk. and u never know u just might find a romantic mate for your life like i did! ...
