I have a number of friends both abroad and at other ends of the country and wanted to share photos of my little girl – She’s only 1 and I’ve turned into one of those irritating friends that doesn’t stop talking about their children.
Digital Cameras haven’t really amazed me just yet so I went ahead and bought a scanner. The process of scanning in already developed prints was time consuming but worthwhile, then I heard about Fotango.
Fotango develops your films on-line for free but charges you for the printing of any photos. A pretty simple concept, however the execution is really inspiring. I recently joined and promptly received my introduction pack, including a selection of pre-paid envelopes in which to return my 35mm or APS films for developing.
The opportunity to use the service arose after my Daughter’s first birthday when I went through a complete roll in the first hour of here party. The following day (Friday) I popped the film in the pre-paid envelope and sent it off to Fotango. On Monday I received an e-mail with a link to my personalised web page with the developed photos. Within minutes I was sending these pictures to friends and family as well as building some cute e-cards for the Grand parents.
I received a number of free prints as part of my registration incentive and once a few friends had seen the pics they also joined Fotango, providing me with additional free prints. All in all I ordered 11 free prints and only paid for the delivery.
There are loads of other value-added services on the site, including photo mouse mats and being able to preview frames for your photos. I’m sure I’ll be making the most of these services in the future.
Since I’m no great photographer I often get a few wasted photographs on every developed film and this service allows me to preview the photos before I buy them. While the cost of printing the films after they’ve been developed is slightly more expensive than normal the over all deal is quite competitive.
I would whole-heartedly recommend the service.
UPDATE******************************* It looks like the free on-line development offer has now finished. To get you're phots develop and published on-line you need to order a complete printed set .
To be honest I'll still use the service since it saves me time having to scan in the photos afterwards.
Advantages: Quick service, many options online Disadvantages: not experienced any (yet)
I found Fotango from a link on Ciao's homepage. A day after signing up I received a package with two film envelopes and a voucher worth up to £6.49 for processing. I popped into one of the envelopes a disposable camera I had been meaning to have developed for ages. I posted this on Friday and by Tuesday morning I received my photographs, 24 of them sized 7" x 5". The same day I received an e-mail telling me my photo's where online.
Once logged into ... ...into albums and give them captions. Other facilities included being able to e-mail a photo, or even an album of photo's, to a friend or turn them into e-greetings. The e-greeting option was fun, you can add things to your photo's like speech bubbles, objects and backgrounds and then write your message. You get the chance to preview your e-greeting before sending so that you can go back and change it if you are not happy with the result.
You can ...

Advantages: cheap, quick, online photo albums Disadvantages: full scale of services are not immediately obvious
I first came across Fotango through an affiliates scheme from either Tradedoubler or Commission Junction (I don't remember which), which of course puts me in mind of another opinion or two to be written!!! They approached me as a potential user of their shopping cart service before I ever used them to process photographs.
I have a website (www.thedrawingroom.org) where people can request pictures to be drawn. As I provide this service for free, ... ...Fotango service has provided that opportunity. The service is known as 'print button'. You give them access to your ftp account, and upload hi-res versions of your pictures. They can then produce and sell your images on a variety of products; t-shirts, mousemats, mugs etc. You set the sale price somewhere above the base price of the product, and split the profit with Fotango.
I can't say I've made my millions through this, but give it time! It is ...

The down-side to this, is that recently you get "www.fotango.com" across the bottom of your picture. When you add a site which is easily navigated, well designed, ... ...Recived an e-mail from fotango.com recently informing me of new features on the site. These are:

Advantages: UK Based!!, Digital Photo Upload Service!!, Wide Range Of Photo Gifts!! Disadvantages: None!!
...know was that services like Fotango.com existed.... With Fotango.com, you can send in normal photo films or disposable cameras, to have them printed and sent back to you.
