Advantages: Huge MB without having to buy a new or increase memory on a computer, Acessible from anywhere, Reasonable charges Disadvantages: Nothing like having the data on your own computer, Some may find offload and download a bit slow
Freedrive.com provides online storage to suit most requirements.
Unfortunately I only became aware of this site after they had started charging for storage. I understand that it was a Free service for sometime.
However, despite it not being free anymore, it is still a very good option for many people.
The benefits of online storage are immense and some of these include:
Convenience ...they would love to save and store on their computers. However this is not possible due to the limited MB available to them and therefore the justification to store data that you would appreciate keeping, but at the same time do not consider that important, is exemplified and which results in the data not being stored or deleted.

Unfortunately I only became aware of this site after they had started charging for storage. I understand that it was a Free service for sometime.
However, despite it not being free anymore, it is still a very good option for many people.
The benefits of online storage are immense and some of these include:
Convenience ---------------- Many people have numerous data that they would love to save and store on their computers. However this is not possible due to the limited MB available to them and therefore the justification to store data that you would appreciate keeping, but at the same time do not consider that important, is exemplified and which results in the data not being stored or deleted.
This data could alternatively have been stored on Floppy Discs, CD Roms or other external devices. But this is sometimes very inconvenient especially when trying to store large volumes of MB. You instead end up having your data stored on several floppies etc and may find accessing it more cumbersome.
Online storage provides such people with an ideal tool to facilitate them in retaining such files in one place and in a organized manner.
Accessibility --------------- Online storage also greatly enhances ones ability to access important data from anywhere. Take my example, I regularly travel to Africa on business trips. I transfer most of the data that I would need for my trip to my online storage. When I arrive in Africa I can easily access the data from any computer at my destination. Sure I do have a Laptop but with the amount of data that I require I would either have to purchase a more powerful one or have to make do with my existing one running as slow as a turtle.
Security ---------- Online storage is also ideal for backing up your files. I know of many friends whose computers have crashed suddenly either due to a virus or electrical fault and they have lost valuable data.
As I have mentioned earlier they now charge for the service but the charges are not high considering the service and benefits that you are offered.
Their pricing structure is as follows: 1) FD TestDrive You will be able to receive folders that other members have shared with you. However, you will not be able to store or share files in your account: · 0 MB storage · No sharing privileges · Limited access to FD features · Access to folders others have shared with you This free plan is right for you if you only expect to receive shared folders.
2) FD SmartDrive membership gives you 65 MB of storage space, plus: · Unlimited Private File Sharing · Limited Public Sharing · Photo Albums · FD Desktop and FD Sync · Clip It! · FD Chat · CD Burning PLUS these great features: · A Lookup List to make file sharing easier · Palm access to your account · Advertising-free site Pay just $4.95 (About £3.00) per month, or get 2 months FREE with an annual subscription
3) FD PowerDrive membership is the Top of the Line! FD PowerDrive is fully loaded with 150 MB of storage space and provides you with the most benefits: · Unlimited Private File Sharing · Unlimited Public Sharing · Photo Albums · FD Desktop and FD Sync · ClipIt! · FD Chat · CD Burning PLUS these great features: · A Lookup List to make file sharing easier · Palm access to your account · Advertising-free site Pay just $9.95 (About £7.00) per month, or get 2 months FREE with an annual subscription.
To the person who may consider just saving pictures or attachments this may be expensive. However to a businessman these fees are very reasonable for the services provided and as explained above.
I would recommend this and other Online storage sites especially to businessman and to those that have data that they might consider important in the future.
Freedrive held once the scepters of online storage solutions. Offering no-hasle 50Mb of online storage with upload / download speeds that seemed reasonable enough, it was a lot more than anyone else had to offer.
Rapid changes were made to that, brought largely by the decision to go on as a pay site... here's the details ( all entries regard FREE accounts, ie Testdrive ) :
* account size, dropped down from 50Mb to 20Mb, and then to a remarkable ... ...disabled or choped down to a demo version with more limitations than ever ! ( Surf'n'Save used to be a service for donloading files from the Web direvtly to your FD account & then download it from there, faster )
* site is now flooded with Ads!!!!
* upload / download pages are stuffed with Java, making speeds drop to less than 1/3 of what it was before !!!!!
* it's the only site in the ENTIRE web that will DELETE ALL YOUR ACCOUNT CONTENTS WITH ...

Advantages: File Storage, easy access Disadvantages: Now have to pay for the service
I started using freedrive as i had a lot of family information which I was loathe to store on my hard drive as I was experiencing problems with the pc. This worked fine and was relatively simple to use, I could up-load and store files and at the same time if i needed a hard copy I could download and print off. Photographs, family trees and CV's were all stored and access could be made from anywhere, the ability to access your files from other pc's ... ...Freedrive was no longer free and the files suddenly were in jeopardy of being lost. I had to ask friends to download and then copy then to a cd rom as I do not have own and I did manage to save them that way. I felt I could not afford to pay for this service and if I had left my files there I would have lost years of hard work. ...

Advantages: NOthing special, really except few extra offers. Disadvantages: SLOW, NO STATUS BAR.
I was previously with Driveway.com as an online storage facility. It used to work excellently. However, down the line, it seems to have shut down and had emailed me suggesting FreeDrive as an alternative. I couldn't imaging losing all the files I had stored on Driveway, and was encouraged by the FreeDrive "Web Folder" facility, so I registered at Freedrive. Initially, it seemed like a well organised service offering a few extras. However, when I ... ...to upload to freedrive, and tried the same, it was nothing but frustration. Firstly, it was extremely slow, unlike with Driveway, using the same connection and ISP. Secondly it often broke in the middle, giving no record of how much of the files are done and how much is pending. So, basically, I suggest anyone trying out FreeDrive should really look for alternatives before taking the plunge. ...

Advantages: good navigation, easy to use 'file tree' layout. Disadvantages: connection speed suffers on upload
About six months to one year ago i signed up for a free account at FreeDrive. At he time it seemed really good as I write and record music, and need a lot of storage space. However, the service ha sgot worse and worse, and I am sick of receiving polite reminders informing me that my files will be deleted if I do not subscribe to their pay scheme. I could understand if they refused me access until i payed for subscription, but deleting them without ... ...a bit cheeky. I believe this could be a great site, but they are really forcing people away with this attitude, basically offering you all the space in the world, then holding you over a barrel if you cant download and rehome 65mb worth of vital audio files. My advice - get a zip drive! ...
