Freerice.com is a website setup and run by the United Nations Food Programme with the stated goals of providing free education for all and helping end world hunger by providing rice. The site (through its sponsers who can be seen at the bottom of the page) provides 10 grains of rice for every answer that the visiter gets correct in an English vocabulary question. The basics of the site is that a multiple choice vocabulary question is asked and you have to click on the answer you believe to be correct. Correct answers earn 10 grains of rice which you can see counted at the side. There are ... more

Advantages Advantages Easy way to donate, provides education about school subjects & third world poverty

Disadvantages Disadvantages Would be better if it was aimed at different ages

According the the freerice.com website the two goals of the United Nations Food Prgramme are to; 1. Provide education to everyone for free, 2. The basis of the site is that for every question a person gets right on the multiple choice question on a variety of subjects, 10 grains of rice will be donated through the help of various sponsors. This provides people with the opportunity to learn, whilst also teaching them of the hunger & starvation ... more

    Disadvantages Disadvantages none

As a fan of scrabble and other brain training type games. I was pleased when I visited this website after reading an online review, and have now added it to my favourites. This website combines learning with donating grains of rice to the United Nations food programme which I think is a brilliant idea. This is a website that can be used by the whole family and the multiplication tables are great for kids or adults learning to multiply. This site is easy to use and navigate and has simple headings and an appealing green colour scheme. You get 10 rice grains for each correct answer and within 10 ... more

Advantages Advantages Donates rice for free, improves your own education,

Disadvantages Disadvantages limited community on the site,

Freerice.com is a great way of combining education and charity. FreeRice offers a selection of simple quizzes with the correct answers being awarded 10 grains of rice. This is paid for via advertising as Freerice is one of the only websites where I've stopped my Firefox Adblocker from working. The site itself has recently been updated, so there is a bit more info on the rice being distributed and about the World Food Programme itself. They've also added new subjects to the quiz list including Human Anatomy and a SAT Test Preparation. Subjects now cover Humanities. Geography, English, Maths ... more
