Advantages: None at the moment Disadvantages: Doesn't exist anymore, along with my e-mails
Please can anyone inform me as to what has happened about this e-mail provider? When I type in the address, it just goes to a blank page and I am missing my comments from Ciao from the last 4 days as this WAS my chosen e-mail provider (I have since changed back to my old ask address). Please can anyone inform me as to what has happened about this e-mail provider? When I type in the address, it just goes to a blank page and I am missing my comments from Ciao from the last 4 days as this WAS my chosen e-mail provider (I have since changed back to my old ask address). Not a very good introduction to an opinion is it? But I want to warn people not to sign up for this e-mail provider at the moment (not that you can access the site anyway).
Why did I choose this e-mail? Mainly because about a couple of months ago my ask e-mail was playing up and I wanted an e-mail service dedicated just to receiving e-mails from Ciao. I wanted to keep the ‘moose’ bit at the beginning and rather than be ‘moose992728’ on a popular service, I came across fucx (via an opinion here at Ciao) where I could be just moose@fucx.co.uk.
So what’s it been like? Ok, but not great. The main advantage is that I haven’t received any spam (unlike I receive at Hotmail) – not a single spam e-mail, which is my book is an excellent thing! Like I mentioned also, because it isn’t very popular I could also have my choice of name without loads of numbers following it. Logging in is relatively easy just fill in you name and password on the left hand side of the screen. I get up to 6mb free storage for my e-mails with a counter on screen of how much is used at any one time (so I know whether to delete any files before I am warned). There is also the facility to be sent an e-mail notification to a nominated e-mail address (useful if you want to know at work when someone has sent an e-mail to your fucx address) – I haven’t used that facility so I cannot really comment.
The most annoying thing are the banner ads that appear – they appear as soon as you enter your password and, before you are able to check your e-mail you have to close the ad window. At the bottom of the screen also, they regularly feature that most annoying ‘shoot the monkey’ ad – this is so distracting. When you are reading your mail, a gun keeps moving from side to side continuously (you’ll know how annoying this ad is if you have ever come across it!). Even when you have finished reading one ad, another banner ad can come across the screen before you are able to read another – very annoying!
I also do not like the fact that after you have written and sent an e-mail it doesn’t go automatically go back to your inbox screen (like with most e-mail providers). It then comes up with ‘continue’ which you have to click first before going back to the inbox. To me, there is no point in that screen whatsoever as it doesn’t do anything! Why make people pointlessly click?
When people send e-mails it can also take quite a bit of time for them to reach my inbox (up to an hour) so this service is not recommended to anyone who wants a speedy e-mail provider.
The actual site looks ok, its quite simple with a blue and white colour scheme – but the ads make it annoying. I understand that they must find ways of paying for their service but a few banners at the side of the pages would be much better.
Anyway, this must be one of the shortest opinions I have written for ages. It was merely meant as a warning to others and also as an apology if I have not responded to any e-mail/comments. At the moment you will be unable to use this e-mail provider anyway but just a warning that if it does reappear you may have serious interruptions with the service. If anyone can shed any light as to what’s happened I would be grateful as I have also lost a few of my friends e-mail addresses thanks to this ‘service’ (make sure that you keep your addresses in other places on your pc – otherwise, like me, you may find they have disappeared along with your e-mail provider). What the fucx happened??
UPDATE 13 August ---------------- Its now back and I'm still not impressed. A week without being able to pick up my e-mails isn't good! Not recommended as its an unreliable service - and there is no message of apology on the site. I certainly will not be using it again. My advice is to use a more popular service, you may not get the name you like, but you are more likely to be able to check your e-mails! I'm sticking with Ask!
Advantages: short sweet address, your first name is available, no junk or spam mail Disadvantages: plain look to site, not so popular
fucx.co.uk (free communications X-change) free email offers a very short webmail address you@fucx.co.uk and a name with attitude (unintentionally perhaps). Mail server response is quite quick, and unlike the more popular hotmail free mail which can hang during peak, the website is reasonably quick too. Also as it is not so popular you will find the name that you want is probably still available! you really don't have to be yourname687@someaddress.com ... ...Feature wise it is pretty standard - with spam filters, appendable signature, collect POP mail function, but has a more novel and useful feature 'email notification' function, which informs you by email at your normal or most frequently used address to go and check your webmail.
The layout is pretty simple, almost plain perhaps, which is why the web mail site loads quite quick (compared to some heavy graphics intensive sites.
