If you are into computer or video games, whether it be for PC, Gamecube, PS2, or almost any other machine ever released, then Gamefaqs.com is a site worth bookmarking. It is nothing short of a bible for the video gamer.
I'd gamble there's no one who plays games that has never been stuck at one point. Gamefaqs.com is a site not dissimilar to Ciao, in that the bulk of the content is generated and produced by its users.
Essentially the main aim of the site is to provide help and assistance on any video game. The help can be in the form of an FAQ (Frequently Asked Question) guide, codes or saves for your gameshark or other plug in cheat machine, programmed cheats (cheats you type in or access via a certain sequence of key presses), reader reviews and finally discussion relating to the game on the message boards.
The site has many many users as far as I can gather, based on the amount of games covered, the frequency of updates and the activity on the message boards. I believe the site to be of UK origin, but am not sure on this. Either way it works!
To use the site, you can search for a game that you need help on, and then choose FAQS or Codes, depending on what you want. I would go for some FAQ help, as I detest cheating via the use of codes, but I do admit to needing some pointers from time to time on a sticky level.
Navigate through and you can then see who's written FAQ guides for your chosen game. An older game may have a number of written FAQ's, so the best bet is to choose one at random and read through to see if it can help you in your quest. On the FAQ front page, a half circle to the left denotes the FAQ doesn't cover the whole game, whereas predictably, a full circle would tell you the whole game is covered, therefore on those later levels, look for the full circle!
The guides can be very very detailed, or can be simplistic. It all depends on the writer naturally, much like Ciao, we all have our own unique styles or writing. Continuing on the guides can be divided into general guides – i.e. By level, or chronologically as the game progresses. Or they may be specific or in depth to a specific feature of a game, for example a hidden package guide for Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, or a secret car guide for The Getaway.
FAQ guides can be rated on, like Ciao, but I don't tend to participate much in this. I use the site as and when I need it, normally for just a few minutes at a time, only when I need help. I think perhaps I should at least start to rate a review, as I think I would like my FAQ guides to be rated on if I were to write one.
The message boards are split into console categories, and are very active, so if the FAQ guides can't help, then you can start a discussion, as long as you have registered an account. All very simple to sign up, and the account will also allow you to post your own game guides if you care to! I rarely visit the 'boards as I have yet to not find the answer I need in a written guide.
The site design is basic, but functional. The main pages load quick due to their simple blue, black and white design. Adverts are featured, but the site is not littered, and it is important to note that, at the time of writing, pop-up adverts are not used. If you go into someone's FAQ guide that they have written then it is displayed on screen in the most basic black and white text. The main reason here is so that they load quickly on dial up connections, as a full guide can be 100 – 300 k and on a dial-up connection the user would have to wait too long to see the guide.
To use a guide either scroll through and read, or use CTRL and F to enable a search within the page. Type what you are looking for and all being well the piece you want will display much quicker than if you were to scroll through.
As I say this is one well worth checking out if you are stuck on a particular game. Don't rely on it, just remember it exists if you are well and truly stuck!!
Advantages: Has a whole load of interesting stuff as well as FAQs Disadvantages: Unimpressive graphics
Nowadays, there are a huge range of gaming sites on the web, all offering to solve your gaming problems and show you which games are for your particular interests. So why choose to visit GameFAQs, with its rather dated graphics and low picture content, when you can go to another site, which probably looks much more appealing to the eye?
Well, the simple answer is that GameFAQs can, quite simply, provide everything that your average gamer could want. ... ...FAQs and walkthroughs that are mentioned in the title. Once you enter the site, it is very quick and easy to navigate around and find the game you want – simply type the name of your game into the prominently positioned search box, and select the game you want from the list of games that come up. If you find the game you’re looking for, then you can select from a number of information sections for that game. The main section for that ...

If you have, you will probably like GameFAQs. It is the best computer games source I have ever found in my whole life. It has everything you need to get through a game, such as cheats and game guides, and also message boards to ask for help from other players.
As well as this, there are also reviews written by members of the website, so you can see what a game is like before you buy it. There are of course, the reviews written by either "fan boys" ... ...not have to register to view the reviews, guides, and cheats, but you do for the message boards.
The cheats are all submitted by registered users, and they are able to be reported if the cheats do not work so you know that the cheats you try are generally real. The same applies for game guides; there is an incredibly strict list of guidelines to follow to write a game guide or FAQ for the site, and if they are not followed, then it does not get ...

I consider it a safe bet that anyone who has ever played a videogame has been stuck on a part of a game at least once before, and if so GameFAQs is for you.
GameFAQs is a user driven community (not disimilar to Ciao), where people come to help out other users by submitting a range of different things such as FAQs, game walkthroughs, hints, cheats, reviews and game saves.
The site is exceptionally easy to navigate - you simply select your desired ... ...game you are looking for, and after that you can select the guidance you are looking for (a guide, cheat etc).
The site also comes with an easy to use search box where you can simply enter the game you are looking for and press OK.
I find GameFAQs' guides subbmitted by different users absoloutly excellent - they are usually very detailed and you will find that you can quickly locate exactly what you are looking for almost immediately.
They are ...
