No, it doesn’t mean that you have to grow a tail and develop fur all over your body to scare people into playing games with you, it is the name that members ... ...because the web site name is Monkey Royale (MR)!
I discovered MR about 2 years ago when I saw one of the Tournament Directors (TD) spamming the yahoo game lobby for an upcoming tournament and decided to check out the web site to see what it was about. When I initially logged on to MR I followed the option to sign up as a new member and the process for becoming a monkey was straightforward.

No, it doesn’t mean that you have to grow a tail and develop fur all over your body to scare people into playing games with you, it is the name that members of a games league web site refer to themselves as, because the web site name is Monkey Royale (MR)!
Once I was registered I quickly set about trying to get a game against one of my fellow monkeys to see how the league system that they operate works. The MR web site contains lots of information about how the league operates and the suggested method for getting a league game was to go into the yahoo games lobby and ask for a monkey game (MG)! So that’s what I did, I joined the crib 121 league (there are separate leagues for lots of different yahoo games) and the response was almost instant. Instead of hanging around trying to find someone to play a game with, as soon as I typed the magic phrase "mg ne 1?" into the yahoo game lobby there were numerous offers of games! I quickly became addicted to playing mg's and enjoyed watching my progress up and down the league table.
I suppose I should explain how the MR league system operates at some point so maybe now is as good a time as any! There are two separate elements that are affected by playing mg's and these are "league points" that are used to determine your position on the league table, and "banana bux" which form the currency used on the site to enter tournaments, which I will expand on later.
When you first join a league you start with zero league points and can move up the league table by winning games. For each game that you win, you receive 3 points, and for each game that you lose you are rewarded with a -1 point deduction! The more points that you have, the higher your position is in the league table. The leagues operate on a monthly cycle, starting from the first of each month, and you can join as many leagues as you want.
You can only play another monkey 10 times during each monthly league cycle, and for partner games you can only have the same monkey as your partner for 50 games per cycle. Tournament games also reward monkeys with league points (but not banana bux) which count towards league positions, but these games do not count towards the monthly limit of 10 games against the same player, or 50 games with the same partner.
Ok, that’s the point scoring system taken care of, hope that makes sense, now how would you like to learn about banana bux (I'm fed up typing banana buxs so I am gonna get lazy now and just type bux!
When you become a monkey you are given 500 bux to get you started and these are used to pay the entry fee for any tournaments that you wish to take part in. When I first joined MR I just played league games and wasn’t really too interested in bux because I didn’t play in tournaments, but after playing and chatting with other monkeys I soon discovered the fun that could be had by playing in tournaments. Ok, so how do you get more bux, well for every league game you win you receive 2 bux and for every league game you win you receive 1 bux, so your not gonna get rich in bux by just playing league games then! Tournaments is where the action is if you want to become a bux millionaire! There are tournaments taking place all the time on MR, run by the every helpful and friendly TD's. The entry fee for these tournaments can vary from 10 bux and go way up to 10,000 bux so there is a wide variety of choice to suit everyone's budget.
The payouts from the tournaments are based on the gross entry fees collected so what you can win for finishing in the last 4 of the tournament depends on how much the entry fee was, and how many monkeys played in the tournament. The winner of a tournament collects 40% of the gross figure, the runner up receives 20%, and the two losing semi finalists receive 10% each. Ok, I can hear you, so what happens to the other 20%, well it is split equally between the web site and the TD that hosted the tournament.
Bux are also awarded to monkeys that finish in the top 20 of each league at the end of the month. The amount of bux awarded for league positions is not dependant on any other factors than where you finish in the league. The amounts paid out for league positions are currently 2000 bux for first position, 1000 bux for second position, 500 bux for third and forth position, 300 bux for fifth to tenth position and 200 bux for eleventh to twentieth position.
The MR site is a free league and players can always play without needing to buy bux, but there are options for monkeys to become premium members for a monthly fee. The fees vary depending on the premium status required and there are currently three levels of premium membership available, these are silver, gold and platinum. There are several advantages to becoming a premium member, the most notable being increased bux for playing games and free tournaments for gold and platinum monkeys. League game bux payouts for premium monkeys are 4 bux per win, 2 bux per loss for silver members, 6 bux per win, 3 bux per loss for gold members, and 8 bux per win, 4 bux per loss for platinum members.
I hope this review has been helpful to you and that you will check out the site if you are a fan of yahoo games. I have been a monkey for over two years now, and have thoroughly enjoyed my time playing there, and meeting and chatting with other members! If you want to check out the site then the url is www.monkeyroyale.com, and if you sign up my referral number is 106038, and I will get 500 bux for everyone that signs up and is still active after 90 days. Look me up if you join, I can usually be found in whatever yahoo lobby the next 121-crib tournament is scheduled for!
Advantages: Very user friendly interfaces and some great versions of classic games Disadvantages: Some of the players are very arrogant
As the internet expands to bursting point, it is becoming harder and harder to find interesting sites, original content, or entertaining sites. Yahoo have, again, excelled themselves. They have created a huge online gaming community based around some of the oldest and simplest games there are.
There are too many games to mention each and every one, but suffice it to say that they have all of the old favourites. Card games include Poker, Blackjack, ... ...even Pool are available, and this is just a very small selection of what you can play. If you can name a game, the chances are that they have a version of it on here. The games themselves are very slick. The tables look great, if a little plain, and every game has it's own unique feel. They use Java Applets, so you'll need a reasonably recent browser to be able to play. You'll also need a Yahoo ID, but if you don't have one, worry not for it takes ...

Advantages: More user-friendly than most game sites Disadvantages: Rating system isn't explained anywhere that can be easily found
If you like Scrabble, you will love Literati - the latest, highly addictive board game on the Yahoo! games site. It's streets ahead of Flipside's Wordox - and I thoroughly recommend Wordox as well!
I needn't give a blow by blow description of how the game is played, since the "how to play" and "tips" links are lucid and extremely helpful. Suffice to say that you don't need to purchase any proprietary software, and the free download isn't disk space ... ...site, if you simply want to enjoy the game and chat at the same time go the social rooms. If you are fiercely competitive then try the Intermediate rated rooms first and then move on to the Advanced rooms if you are up to it. You will also find their ladder rooms both competitive and a resource for adding to your on-line friends. Keeping track of and in touch with them is safe as Yahoo's messenger service is recommended for its security features ...

Advantages: Good fun, chat to other players, loads of games to choose from Disadvantages: Does crash alot
Well this is my second article on yahoo, my last was on auctions (thanks for any feedback) and this is on the games, I am as addicted to this as I am to this website, there are so many titles to chose from such as pool (my favourite) reversi, bingo, solitaire, battleships and loads of others. As I said my favourite game is pool, and I really cant fault this game either, it plays all the same rules as pool and you do get to play against real players ... ...was from las Vegas. You do play in a league, but you are only given a league position and rating once you have completed enough games to prove you are capable of playing and so that you understand the rules, each match you play is rated and if you win you will progress up the league one place and obviously if you lose then you will lose your place and go down the table. So once both opponents have agreed to start a game, you are then committed to ...

Advantages: It's like scrabble, improve your word skills and spelling Disadvantages: Very popular so lags quite a lot
I'm not really much of a game player, either on or offline but a favourite since childhood has been Scrabble, the word game. Unfortunately I have yet to find a true online version of Scrabble ( at least one thats free to play ) but a friend introduced me to Literati at Yahoo.com and since I first played I have been hooked.
Literati plays very similarly to Scrabble, with a board of 15 x 15 squares, of which some are special bonus squares, which either ... ...the whole words score. Common leters ( vowels etc ) are worth 1 point each and rarer letters ( x , z etc ) are worth 5 points. There are also blank tiles which are wild cards and can be any letter but are worth 0.
When the game first starts you are given 7 letters and have to create the best word possible, and one which is worth the most points. If you are able to create a whole word using all 7 letters then you receive a 35 point 'bingo' bonus. ...

Advantages: Fun to play, Good interface Disadvantages: Introduction of some fees, Some silly fools.
As you know there are many online gaming sites out there, all of them with different kinds of games, and some of dubious quality. However, a couple of years ago I signed up to Yahoo games. This was initially a good thing but Yahoo have spoiled the thriving gaming community they had by being greedy!!!
Sign up itself is relatively easy, you just fill in the onscreen forms and hey presto your a member. It is also worth pointing out that this is free ... ...could access all features.
Once you are in, you have the choice of a plethora of different games, ranging from classic card games like blackjack, poker and cribbage to games like dominoes, battleships and reversi. There are always many many people online so finding yourself an opponent is relatively easy.
The games themselves run in a Java applet so you will require a browser with Java enabled. A major plus is that the games load in pretty quickly ...
