Geomaag A great favourite with everyone at the moment. This was originally purchased because Little Miss had been introduced to it at school and had waxed lyrical about it, so we decided to "give it a go". The principle behind buying it was that it would be a great construction type activity, but in reality, it teaches so much more. It does actua;;y teach, in a fun way, the principles of magnetism and the basic laws of physics (something I am not particularly up to scratch with!), as well as giving an insight into construction, engineering and architecture. All this can be done by by ... more

The first time I came across the Geomag range was in 2002 on a holiday in Italy. At the time my son was six, we were into the second week of our holiday and Jack still had euros burning a whole in his pocket. On a trip to Como he found a lovely toyshop and there on the shelf he spotted boxes of a new toy to him - Geomag. He was immediately fascinated by the new toy, and not only him. We were staying at a hotel on Lake Como, and as he sat in the lounge playing with it among the many people showing an interest in it were four separate teachers and they were intrigued with the toy and said what a ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheap to start a little collection; hours of entertainment; will bring out the child in you!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Ever so slightly addictive!

Geomag is a toy made primarily of rods with magnets at either end and little metallic balls (you can also get panels that fit in the gaps of square shapes and so on). They come in a range of bright and fun colours and you can also get glow in the dark pieces! Each rod is approximately 2 cms long but you can make massive structures out of them! Geomag came on the scene back in 1998 and has become a modern day lego (not that lego does not exist any more, but you get my point!). Models are made by connecting the rods with the balls together in a lattice. There is an excellent website showcasing ... more

Advantages Advantages Excercises the hands and imagination for creative structure making

Disadvantages Disadvantages Heavy magnets not to be put near small children or watches

GEOMAG products consists of magentic rods, spheres and plastic panels that simply "stick" together allowing you to make awesome shapes. You can use them virtually anywhere and they do not require electric power. All you need is a little time and imagination to make up some cool shapes and structures. I love my GEOMAG. First I got a set for my brother age 35 and then for myself. My daughter age 5 soon got hooked and so did her friends. Even Dad plays with them, infact everyone who gets hold of them just can't resist making a shape. I love the way GEOMAG sticks together using the power of ... more

Our little girl was bought a 46 piece set of geomag when she was 4, and took to it straightaway, although in truth, she's more interested in it now she's 6. I would say it's the sort of toy which could entertain you for a lifetime, because it's as simple or as complex as you want to make it. Basically, it's just magnetic balls and rods which can be built into various shapes, constructions and models. Some sets also contain transparent coloured plastic panels of different shapes which you can slot into your construction to make it more colourful, or to add an extra dimension to your model ... more
