♥♥ The Story Behind my Purchase ♥♥ Once upon a time, not so long ago..... I went through most of my teenage years with relatively managable, actually quite straight hair, until I had a new cut and colour, woke up in the morning and it all seemed to change! Over night my hair had turned into a mixture of curls, frizz, kinks and straight-ness - not a nice mixture! I had no option but to use my sisters hair straighteners, aged seventeen, for the first time in my life. Now these were not GHD's, but a much, much cheaper pair of babyliss straighteners. They were years old then, so their desperately outdated now!
After a year or so of using these straighteners, I moved up in the world to my own pair of straigteners that weren't steam based! These were also Babyliss, and about 50 quid from boots. These worked quite well, and I was spending around 15 minutes every morning straightening my hair, until my damn sister upgraded her straigteners to a pair that were hotter and easier to use, so I ditched the babyliss once again and went back to using her newer pair.
The first time I saw GHD's was at a friend of mine's house - we were getting ready to go out and straightened her hair quickly. I mentioned that they looked good, she replied, "Yeah their GHD's". After receiving no reaction from me, she went on, "Their the best... they were £120 though!" I was totally shocked and disgusted that someone would spend such a sum on a pair of straightening irons, and mentally put my friend into the "stupid" section of friends in my brain.
It all changed about a year later when I moved in with (a different) friend of mine for about six months. She also had a pair of GHD's, and she straigtened my hair with them for me one day. I was suprised when after less than a minute she replied, "Done!" I smiled at her, and thought, oh god, now I'm going to have to go out with horrible kinky hair just because she thinks she's done a good straightening job. I looked in the mirror and was amazed! In less than 60 seconds, she had perfectly straightened my hair to better than it had even been before, even after 15 or 20 minutes of passionate straightening!
I brought my own pair as soon as I moved out of her house....
♥♥ The technology ♥♥ GHD's uses negative ion technology and infra red heat which protects your hairs natural oils. They are therefore effective, when combined with using heat protection prodcuts, of keeping your hair healthy and causing the least amount of damage when straightening - considering the irons heat up to such extreme temperatures!
GHD Irons can also be used as curling tongs, by curling the hair around the irons themself, so you wont have to invest in a pair of these - it's two for the price of one! You can also use them to create little flicks in your hair, and to style it into different ways - theres a little cute booklet included in the box for ways of how to do this, and it's not too interesting so I wont go into that here.
Other features of these little lovelies include a little red LED light which flases when they have heated up - which only takes about 10 seconds! This is a good idea, as none of my other straighteners have had this feature, and so you sort of guess when you think their ready to be used.
♥♥ For Best Results... ♥♥ Wash hair and towel dry. Apply GHD iron oil or equivalent and then blow dry (if necessary). Next, section your hair into about two or three large sections (depending on thickness) in layers. Work your way through your hair starting from the bottom section quickly. (Oops, dont forget to turn them on first!) Until you get to the top layer. Then stop, turn off the straighteners and brush through the top layer of hair. Turn on the straigteners again and immediately straighten the front section, starting from the parts closest to your face - I've found these sections to be the most delicate and sensitive to frizzing, and if the irons are too hot they can end up getting stuck in an awkward position for the rest of the day! Turn your head upside down, apply a little hair spray and serum and brush through, and voila! Perfect hair! .... Well thats my method anyway!
♥♥ The Price ♥♥ I paid around £100 for my pair of straigteners a good few years ago, but now you'll be able to get them quite a bit cheaper.
The GHD website is currently selling a GHD 'Travel bag' including the irons for £135 - this includes the straighteners as well as a selection of other GHD products - a paddle brush, six small travel-sized products such as shampoo and conditioner and polishing serum, GHD sectioning clips and a heat resistant mat and pouch, all wrapped up in a litttle cute GHD pink and black travel bag. Aww.
The website is also selling mini-GHD's for £89, and the irons alone for £99, which includes a year guarantee. Check out ebay for some better bargains though, some are going for £20-30 less than this price.
♥♥ The Bad Bits ♥♥ Of course, the main downfall of GHD's is their price, as they are very expensive considering you can grab a cheap pair of irons from the supermarket for about twenty quid. But in this case it's definetly quality that matters, as I said, I went through three pairs of irons in a short period of time before finding my GHD's and haven't looked back since!
Other bad points include there not being an option to change the temperature of the irons. This wasn't a problem for me, as I've always tended to use them on maximum, but it may bother some people.
Of course, another bad point can be accidentally straightening your ear, fingers or (god forbid) nose! These irons can reach temperatures of up to 210 degrees, so not something you really want to be holding on to!
♥♥ The Other GHD Products ♥♥ I've previously owned a few GHD products, such as GHD shampoo and conditioner and GHD iron oil. The shampoo and conditioner worked well, but I much prefer other brands, especially as they are so much cheaper!
The GHD Iron Oil I purchased was around a tenner. The product itself was of a good quality and smeller lovely, just like a hairdressers spray. But! There are other hair protection products avaliable that do the same job for a third of the price, so I wouldn't recommend this oil. ♥♥ My Opinion ♥♥ I love my GHD's! I use them on my hair almost every morning, and it never takes me more than a couple of minutes, depending on how many sections I put my hair into for the straightening, obviously it will vary according to the thickness and hair type you have, but even friends of mine with naturally very curly hair have used my irons to straighten their hair with the same results, just a little longer time as smaller sections of their hair was used at a time.
I can straighten my hair in the morning and it's still straight when I wake the next morning, even after a mad night out!
I recommend these to everyone!

...my friend introduced me to GHD (good hair day) professional ceramic straighteners. At first I was sceptical but after testing hers I knew that these were the straighteners for me. . . . . The GHD's glided effortlessly through my hair and left it looking POKER STRAIGHT!!! I had never experienced this before and was amazed that it had worked so well. I have found though that it is best to straighten small sections at a time rather than attempting to ... ...You can also purchase other GHD products specifically designed for the purpose of protecting your hair when straightening it.
It must also be noted that not only do GHD's have the capacity to straighten hair, they can curl your hair to perfection too. Although I have found that there is a certain skill required in curling the hair.
At around £99 I had to wait until my birthday to get some of my own as I couldn't afford them myself!! They are not ...

...people singing the praises of GHD straighteners, but at £100 they were too expensive to buy only to be consigned to the hair appliance graveyard at the bottom of my wardrobe. I already had two sets of straighteners there that I rarely used. (R.I.P babyliss crimping trio and Revlon styler) My sister came home from the hairdresser's one day with a pair of GHDs and I was impressed with her hair, so she offered to do mine. Not entirely convinced it would ... ...to Breast cancer charities. GHD straighteners are suitable for straightening afro hair, so I figured it had to work on mine.
The whole thing measures about 10" by 2.5" so are quite compact, (the actual plates are about 1" by 4") they are also very light. They have a salon length cord, which is about 2 metres.
The plates use infra-red technology, which help to seal in the hair's natural oils and increase shine, how this works I don't know, but you ...

And I must say at £12.00 it is worth every penny, as my hair remains straight until I wash it again. The product has two ceramic plates which conduct heat, the plates get extremely hot very quickly, and after taking a section of hair in one hand and sliding the tongs ... ...perfectly straight and silky, and static free. The whole process for straightening the whole head is amazingly quick because of the extreme heat the stylers give. So they are perfect to use when getting ready for work, or when in a rush.

I asked how my and nearly fell off my chair when she told me how much!! Now I had a choice of what type of GHDS I went for. I could have the original ceramic styling iron for £99.00 or the ceramic mini styler for £89.00. But she recommended that I go for the ceramic salon styler which retail price is £103.50, boy did I have a choice.

Heat settings They don't have any heat settings! But the irons do get really hot.. That I have to say is one of the draw backs of the GHDS. the number of times I have burnt my fingers and carpet! But on a plus side you don't have to wait forever and a day for the things to heat up its instant and last a long time.

I just bought this GHDIVSalonStylerHairStraightener - WidePlates and it is amazing...My hair is coarse, curly, always intend to frizz and really hard to be straightened...But it is all in the past!!! I ordered my GHD 5 days ago from the Amazon's own retailer and even with free delivery I received them today and as I was so excited to use them and see the results I instantly used them on my hair without even bother to wash the hair before!!! And the result? with only 2 strokes on each section, it is perfectly straight!!! Unbelievable... I have got three other Straightener and with them I needed to blow dry my hair first, and then with 5-6 strokes on each small section, I could not get this result of perfectly frizz free straight hair!!! I am really amazed...I also spent hours outside today and the weather was not dry and nothing ...
