To begin with I must say that my hair is THICK and FRIZZY and WAVY!!!
Before GHD's were invented nothing could control the state of my locks. I tried several different straighteners but alas they could not fully straighten or tame by thick hair.
Then my friend introduced me to GHD (good hair day) professionalceramic straighteners. At first I was sceptical but after testing hers I knew that these were the straighteners for me. . . . . The GHD's glided effortlessly through my hair and left it looking POKER STRAIGHT!!! I had never experienced this before and was amazed that it had worked so well. I have found though that it is best to straighten small sections at a time rather than attempting to get as much hair as possible into the straighteners in one go - this provides for optimum straightening. I also found that the GHD's left my hair looking visibly thinner - it had tamed my thick hair!!!! Apparently GHD's also seal in moisture and natural oils thereby protecting the hair to a certain extent. You can also purchase other GHD products specifically designed for the purpose of protecting your hair when straightening it.
It must also be noted that not only do GHD's have the capacity to straighten hair, they can curl your hair to perfection too. Although I have found that there is a certain skill required in curling the hair.
At around £99 I had to wait until my birthday to get some of my own as I couldn't afford them myself!! They are not the cheapest straighteners on the market at present.
Another benefit to GHD's is that they heat up extremely fast. After approximately 10 seconds I find that they are very hot indeed, reaching over 210 degrees. There is no waiting around for ages for this appliance to reach its temperature. There is only one temperature setting for GHD's. Although as they do reach very high temperatures and I have burnt myself on them a couple of times. (OUCH!!!) It is advisable to keep GHD's in a safe place and away from children. I have also been warned against wrapping the wiring around the straightener itself. You are meant to leave the wires loose so as to avoid kinks - apparently this can be dangerous!!
I have the original GHD's although you can now purchase ones with a narrower plate (£89) or a wider plate (£103.50). The thinner plated GHD's are for people with shorter hair or men (yes even men love to use the GHD'S!!!) whereas the wider plated GHD's are ideal for people with very thick and heavy hair.
GHD's are a very sleek appliance and are normally black with yellowy/beige plates. Although now you can purchase them in hot pink. Yes that's right, for all you ladies out there who love PINK, these are the ones for you!!! They are however a limited edition item and have been released to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month!! The hot pink GHD's also come with a heat-resistant wrap - an added bonus!! But they do come at a price, a whopping £135 (£10 of which goes to charity - Breakthrough Breast Cancer)!!
I would recommend GHD's to all. They are a must have!!
