Glade spiced apple candle
With Christmas coming up, and knowing that we would be doing lots of cooking and entertaining, i bought several scented candles to try to keep the house sweet smelling. The candle is part of Glade’s limited edition holiday range, and the scents include: Homemade Gingerbread; French Vanilla; baked pear and cinnamon.
This candle is sold in a cardboard sleeve, with all the information on the back of the sleeve. I can see the candle and do think it looks rather nice, and being red, will match the dining room. When I take out the candle, the candle is a nice deep red and sits in a rounded glass jar which is lightly frosted so that it kind of looks as though there is a bit of a snow storm going on against a red back ground. The instructions tell me to trim the wick to 5mm but I hadn’t read the instructions before lighting it, and it didn’t have any adverse effects. When I light the candle it lets off a nice glow through the frosted glass, and the smell is almost instantly discernible. The information on the candle sleeve tells me that this is a blend of winter spices with cinnamon and apple, and I can really smell the spiced apple, making my room smell all festive and Christmasy! For the aroma to really fill the room, it’s best to burn the candle for 2-4 hours, as suggested in the instructions. After this time, there is a cosy glow to the room and a lovely scent, effectively masking any food smells.
There are certain warnings such as keep the candle away from children, don’t move while the candle is lit, and warns that this is for indoor use only. The candle is made by SC Johnson, and there is lots of information on the website, www.glade.com. It seems there is a candle for almost every occasion. This cost me £1 from Sainsbury but I believe this to be because it was on special offer.
MY VERDICT...I will definitely be buying this candle again over the festive period. Because of the distinct cinnamon scent, I think it’s more suited to Christmas time rather than in the heat of the summer, because the snow scene red glow and the smell is very definitely wintery. However, that said, if they continue to be on special offer, I will buy plenty and if there are some left then they can be used next year (I don’t see a use by date!)
I do as suggested and tend to burn the candle for about three hours at a time and definitely for no longer than 4 hours. It has already lasted 5 days of this type of burning and there is I believe a few days left.A great candle for eliminating odours, and one which I would recommend for the winter months.
Thanks for reading.Daniela x
