I have been wearing glasses for about 15 years now and always bought new ones from a high street store. My last pair of lenses (as I kept the frames) were from Vision Express but due to the various coatings etc they cost over £100 just for the lenses. I had seen the adverts for Glassesdirect ... Advantages: Good service, fantastic prices, well made glasses Disadvantages: none really
Some time ago, whilst driving down the M4 near Bristol I saw a huge sign advertising Glasses Direct. What a good idea, I thought, and did nothing more.
Recently a member of the family ordered himself a pair of glasses form there, and paid a miserly £18.50 for a pair of standard prescription lenses in some very nice coloured frames. They arrived in less than a week and fitted beautifully. High street opticians are worried by the on-line dispensers, ... ...for less than £80, even at a budget high street or supermarket optician.
When you next get a prescription from your optician check it to see if they have given you the PD measurement, your glasses can be made up without it but will fit best if the dispenser knows it. many opticians leave it off the prescription for this very reason, although they are obliged to tell you what it is if you ask.

Advantages: , can order outside office hours, good choice of frames Disadvantages: May be difficult to resolve problems with fit
I needed a new pair of glasses and decided to have a look at one of the web based suppliers. I wear contact lenses most of the time and only wear glasses in the evening or sometimes at weekends.

I was keen to buy a cheap pair in some exciting colours as the lenses in my other glasses were very scratched and I was quite bored ... ...usual opticians a few months ago but couldn't see any frames that caught my eye.
I received a brochure by post from Glasses Direct and decided to try a pair of the cheaper frames rather than go for designer ones - I figured that if you are only paying £20 for a complete pair of glasses (plus P&P) you can't really go wrong. I only need standard vision lenses, but they do sell a variety of different lenses with different coatings.
How do I pick a ...

Advantages: Cheap frames. Easy to order Disadvantages: Don't keep you informed if there's a problem.
Having previously bought a pair of glasses with Glasses Direct that went smoothly, I decided to use them again to buy a new pair of glasses and prescription sunglasses. I decided on a cheap pair of glasses and a more expensive, funky pair of sunglasses. The sunglasses didn't arrive until a month later, when I called to chase them. I was told they were ready and were sitting in the lab and they couldn't tell me why they hadn't sent them out. The glasses ... ...had come loose. I sent them back for repair and received them a few days later. The glasses looked great and felt good on but it turned out I was allergic to the metal in the frames. I called Glasses Direct who were very nice about exchanging the frames for a pair of plastic Storm frames, for which I paid an extra £30.
About 4 weeks later, I received the Storm glasses, which looked fabulous. However, after a few weeks, I noticed one lens was getting ...
