I have tried a range of cards for my long distance telephone calls and go bananas has definitely been one of the best around in terms of value for money.
A £5 card purchased from a local shop can go a long way as I have found out.
Before I proceed to discussing the service, I'll tell you a bit about what it looks like.
Well, basically being a phone card its the same size as a credit card though made of a much flimsier plastic. It's also bright yellow and has an image of a banana on the front. The animation is pretty cool so you wouldn't be able to miss this card in a shop!
Now...back to the service itself.
My long distance calls mainly involve calling Pakistan where the rates are high. Some telephone cards offer calls to Pakistan from £0.40/min which on a £5 card would mount to not very much over 10 minutes of talk time.
However, with Go Bananas I found a £5 card could give me an average of 23 minutes of talk time to Pakistan which was excellent value for money!
I've compared the talk time with various other cards and found that Go Banans definitely gives me the most.
The service is easy to use and as normal you dial the main number and then the special card number followed by the pin number which can be found on the back of each card.
Reception is also pretty clear and better than others like the hot card!
Also, each time you want to check your balance you will find that the go bananas card will not magically "eat up" your credit as I have annoyingly found out with many others.
As with most phone cards, the go bananas card has an expiry period of 90 days.
The only disadvantage of this card is that there is no pre-pay arrangement like Alpha telecom and this means that once the credit has been used, you will need to purchase a new card.
Cards can be brought with the following amount of credit:
£5, £10, £20 and £50.
So happy telephoning! Go Bananas!

go bananas: rotten bananas!

Advantages: Good line and connection quality
Disadvantages: inaccurate call charges
Recently, I purchased a £5 go bananas card from my university's union shop. The poster stated that I would get 145 minutes to call to Malaysia. That's definitely a good deal! Without haste,I immediately proceeded to call back home.About 10 minutes into the conversation, there was a warning message informing me that the credit was low.A few minutes later,I was disconnected! What a rude shock!Confused,I called the customer service and was told that I was ... ...the same experience with the go bananas card.Furthermore,go bananas charges a connection fee.In the poster, none of these were mentioned! In fact,'no additional charges' was printed on it! Really,I expected 145 minutes and to be rudely disconnected within 10 minutes is just too much! I could have just called direct via the payphone with £5! What a rip off, especially for a student with a limited budget like me! ...
