I have tried a range of cards for my long distance telephone calls and go bananas has definitely been one of the best around in terms of value for money.

A £5 card purchased from a local shop can go a long way as I have found out.

Before I proceed to discussing the service, I'll tell you a bit about what it looks like.

Well, basically being a phone card its the same size as a credit card though made of a much flimsier plastic. It's also bright yellow and has an image of a banana on the front. The animation is pretty cool so you wouldn't be able to miss this card in a shop!

Now...back to the service itself.

My long distance calls mainly involve calling Pakistan where the rates are high. Some telephone cards offer calls to Pakistan from £0.40/min which on a £5 card would mount to not very much over 10 minutes of talk time.
However, with Go Bananas I found a £5 card could give me an average of 23 minutes of talk time to Pakistan which was excellent value for money!

I've compared the talk time with various other cards and found that Go Banans definitely gives me the most.

The service is easy to use and as normal you dial the main number and then the special card number followed by the pin number which can be found on the back of each card.
Reception is also pretty clear and better than others like the hot card!

Also, each time you want to check your balance you will find that the go bananas card will not magically "eat up" your credit as I have annoyingly found out with many others.

As with most phone cards, the go bananas card has an expiry period of 90 days.

The only disadvantage of this card is that there is no pre-pay arrangement like Alpha telecom and this means that once the credit has been used, you will need to purchase a new card.

Cards can be brought with the following amount of credit:
£5, £10, £20 and £50.

So happy telephoning! Go Bananas!

go bananas: rotten bananas!
Review of go bananas by scorpy

Advantages: Good line and connection quality
Disadvantages: inaccurate call charges

Recently, I purchased a £5 go bananas card from my university's union shop. The poster stated that I would get 145 minutes to call to Malaysia. That's definitely a good deal! Without haste,I immediately proceeded to call back home.About 10 minutes into the conversation, there was a warning message informing me that the credit was low.A few minutes later,I was disconnected! What a rude shock!Confused,I called the customer service and was told that I was ...
...the same experience with the go bananas card.Furthermore,go bananas charges a connection fee.In the poster, none of these were mentioned! In fact,'no additional charges' was printed on it! Really,I expected 145 minutes and to be rudely disconnected within 10 minutes is just too much! I could have just called direct via the payphone with £5! What a rip off, especially for a student with a limited budget like me! ... Read review

Cheap International Calls
Review of First National by  BruceC

Advantages: Cheap and practical way to make international calls without being billed
Disadvantages: None

...the cards to make as many calls as you like until your credit it used up) You then dial the international number (using the full code, for example 001 for the U.S.A.) When you finish your call you can either hang up or enter ## to continue using your card on the next call. I have found that this is one of the cheapest and most reliable cards I have used (2nd best perhaps goes to 'Go Bananas') First National also offer a deal on the Silver (£10) card, where if you use ten u can claim a free card.... High street health foods on the web
Review of Holland & Barrett (Shop) by  MichelleScott

Advantages: Reasonable prices, vast product range
Disadvantages: Can be very busy

...in the supermarkets, but the extra 10% off makes a big difference. Similarly, dry soya mince is reasonable anyway, but even better with 10% off (rehydrate it with a ‘Vecon’ gravy and it will taste wonderful). Their vegetarian protein powder is a good investment if you aren’t sure of getting a good, regular supply of protein. It comes in a big green tin and costs £9.99. I use a scoop in my morning breakfast shake (with some seeds, soya milk and a banana). It sets me up for the day and keeps me going until lunchtime without getting the shakes or the munchies. Their magazine, called ‘Health’ by some uninspired dodo-head is pretty good. It’s 75p and packed with information and advice. It also contains money-off vouchers.... Read review

Size DOES matter...
Review of WalMart Supercenter (Shop) by  insipidangel

Advantages: Great Selection - Always Low Prices
Disadvantages: Too big, can be daunting and always busy

...of getting those annoying "runaway trolly dinks" in your car. There is always a greeter at the door to welcome you, which is a very nice touch. I've never walked past without a hello, although in busier times, its a group hello, but its nice to see the effort none the less. The fruit & veg is of good quality, however i do find if you go late in the day you can never seem to get a bunch of bananas. They have a very wide selection of fresh baked goods, and the quality is always very good. Their hedgehog loaves of fresh bread are second to none. Although once again, if you leave it until too late in the day, the stock is nearly empty. The one thing i love, with being an expat, is that there's always a selection of products which i either can't get anywhere else, or are very hard to find without paying obscene prices elsewhere...
