Using a Search engine (i.e. Google) *****************************
When you go to Google, it does not put you off with complicated jargon or a complicated user interface, it is nice and basic. The main of the whole page is centred, you have the choice of a Web Search, this is used to locate WebPages that match your enquiry. You enter a keyword, e.g. you are looking for the new Ps2 game mercenaries and where can you get it from for the cheapest. You enter into the search field “Cheap Mercenaries Ps2 game”. Then you click the Google search or press the enter/return key. Google quickly searches its database to find the relevant information. The results of Google are based on how relevant the website is to your search. So, you’ve just searched Google for “Cheap Mercenaries Ps2 game”. You have now been taking to another page, the results page. This page displays 10 results per page this is the default amount to be displayed. The most relevant websites are placed at the top of the page. In this case there is a sponsored link (highlighted in blue) This link is www.play.com/games . Below that link are the 10 results on that page, to the right of these links are some sponsored links, these links have been placed here by paying customers advertising there sites. In simple terms Google is like a book, the actual main of the book is the internet, now at the back of the book is the index of the book, say the book is about cars and you want to know how engines work. You manually go to the back of the page and find the letter “ E “ , Then scan the page till you find engines, the index is listed in alphabetical form. When you find engines, next to it will be a list of page numbers that contain information about Google. You may take a couple of minutes to do this, but Google takes mille seconds. My search for “Cheap Mercenaries Ps2 game” took (0.18 seconds) .
The history of Google ***************** The founders of Google were Larry Page and Sergey Brin. They met each other at Stanford University in 1995. This highly successful website was actually set up in a garage of a friend. The name Google actually comes from the word googol. It refers to the number represented by the numeral 1 followed by 100 zeros.

When lary was 24 , he was on a weekend visit to the University of Michigan. Now sergey was 23 and he had to show lary around. They argued about most of the topics that they talked about, and disagreed on most things. But, in Jan 1996 lary and sergey had began together to build a search engine that was called Black Rub. It was called Backrub because ,it had an unique ability to examine “back Links” to a website.
How to use Google & how it works
When searching Google try and use keywords to do with what you would like to search about. Try not to include common words such as And, if, in, me Etc. If you want google to display results to exactly what you type you do this. Say you want to search for free stuff, you go to google and type in “free stuff” . Google now will only display results that give an exact match to what you have searched for.
Google has three distinct parts, each of which is run on a distributed network of thousands of cheapish computers and can therefore carry out fast parallel processing. Parallel processing allows many calculations to be performed simultaneously, this is how a search engine can search its database so fast. And get the results you want.
• Googlebot, This a webcrawler that crawls the internet indexing and cacheing websites. • The indexer that sorts every word on every page and stores it all on a mssive database • The query processor, This compares the words you have entered, get the keywords and finds the relevant information in the database, and displays it to you.
Google Bot
Google bot is a webcrawling program, it finds websites. Indexes and takes a snapshop of what they look like. It’s like a web browser, it sends a request for a website. If the website is active it will idex it.
Googlebot uses many computers to request for a webpage, in fact googlebot is capable to request thounsands of different webpages at the same time. But, googlebot does not work to it’s fullest this would overwhelm a webserver and stop human access to a website,
When Googlebot fetches a page, it rembers all the links appearing on the page and adds them to a queue for crawling. Googlebot normally encounters little spam because most web authors link only to what they believe are high-quality pages. By getting links from every page it encounters, Googlebot can quickly build a list of links that can cover bits of the web. This technique, known as deep crawling, because of this method googlebot can nearly index every page of the web. But, because the web is so big, googlebot only scans like this about once every month.
Googlebot gives the indexer the full text of the pages it finds. These pages are stored in Google's index database. This index is sorted alphabetically by search term, with each index entry storing a list of documents in which the term appears and the location within the text where it occurs. This type of data structure allows much more better performance for google and it users. Also google changes all upper text documents to lower case to improve its prefromance
Googles Websites *************** The first Google website was American, so if you lived in the U.K and wanted to buy a ps2 game, it would only find American prices and shops, now though Google have about 97 different websites, these websites are in all different kinds of languages. This now solves the problem for Google, that non English speaking people can search the web in there native language.
What I think about Google ********************
I think Google is the best search engines out there, it is fast dynamic and gets the results you want. Google is constantly enhancing its search engine, look how far it has advanced from when it was first created in a garage , with a small budget to a massively successful business, now people to say there going to search for it, they use the term of “ I’ll Google it “. I recommend Google to anybody that is not using it, it’s the best search engine out there.

Advantages: Brilliant search engine Disadvantages: None that I can think of
...to be American! Therefore Google.com was launched! However, realising that of course there are many people around the world who require a search engine (preferably in their native language and not producing results for American websites) Google have extended their websites so that they now have many different domains (web addresses) from countries such as France, Germany, Malta and many others all being written in the relevant native language. I ... ...and Tools, Jobs,Press&Help, Go to Google.com and Make Google Your Homepage.
·Advertising is for the benefits of companies who want to pay so that there website address is featured on search result pages.
·Services and tools, tells you about the other services Google supply (I am not going to tell you about most of these otherwise I could be still writing this in 20 odd years)

Advantages: Quick loading, easy to use, Simple layout, Lots of features Disadvantages: Search results aren't always what you're after and requires digging around
Google is the world's most popular search engine. A search engine is a program or a coordinated set of programs that crawls the web to find documents that matches keywords and then returns the matches in a list. Basically, it's the thingy you use to search for stuff on the Internet. There are loads about such as MSN, Yahoo, Ask but Google has dominated the rest and has become the most popular.
Although the category is Google.com, I'm usually directed ... ...pages within the UK only. This is quite handy as if I'm looking to buy something, I may not want to have it sent from the USA or France when it can be from the UK. That and certain things items are only available in the UK or are in a UK format.

Mos t of us use Google but have you ever thought what makes it diffirent? What it offers? I know very little of us know about the secrets of Google because most of you are as lazy as I am.
Google is not just a search engine, but it has been providing some other valuable services. In other words, it has brought all the useful stuff of the net to a single pont. Although many other search engines provide the same services but Google is popular among ... ...use. During the last few months, Google has brought a lot of changes in it. Its now more user friendly and new services have been added. Its all because of programmers and computer experts which Google calls "Enginners".
Currently, Google is able to search through four million pages. Google is very well aware of its user geographical location. It has programmed to find out the location of the visiter by the IP address and then redirects the user ...

Advantages: Fast, Comprehensive covers most of the net Disadvantages: None really, non grouping of sites is a minor one, but.... by searching by type or by extending your search this isn't a problem

With this feature, if you search for a site and a result is in a foreign language to ... ...you into the correct language. This is done via a simple alternate link to click when opening the page.
The accuracy whilst it could never be excellent (due to how language is such a complex thing) it nevertheless enables you to read with some fluidity. Certainly navigating entire sites is possible using this feature, the bonus is sometimes the translations can prove to be pretty funny :-)
