A friend of mine told me about AVG from Grisoft and as I was already using a package that I had bought a while ago and needed to pay for an upgrade, I thought I would give it a try.
Once I had uninstalled my old package and downloaded the AVG software and run it, I noticed that my system was not crashing as it used to - deep joy!
I set it up and away it went, quietly doing what it was supposed to do without popping up and annoying me every five minutes.
Every so often, an alarming red screen flashes up, just to let me know there may be some nasty stuff trying to implant itself on my pc. A quick press of the return key later and voila, no more nasties.
There are regular free downloadable update from the site which is accessed through AVGs easy to use and understand control panel.
I ceratinly feel safer with AVG than I did with my bought package and I am confident that nothing nasty is getting through the measures AVG have in place.
If you are a serious surfer or just do a bit of browsing once in a while, get yourself this software. It does exactly what it says on the tin!!

I would have enjoyewd more detail, I wondered at one stage if it was a Virus protector or firewall then I remembered the title....Still a reasonable op..

I actually use this software along side my firewall software and find it very effective . A nice first op , but lacks a little more info eg . web site address , more software details ( eg auto checking , auto updating etc. ) . Adding such would help improve ratings.

I agree - I've been using this for quite a while, and now that I've got "always on" broadband, it's even more important. One good thing, it now updates itself without asking to dial up first. Chris
