We've got a fairly old operating system at home (Windows 98se) and we needed an anti virus package that was up to the mark and wasn't going to let us down.
A friend suggested AVG a free anti virus software package that you download from the internet.
Go to www.grisoft.com and follow the links to download the software directly to your PC.
It downloads in no time and the set up is very straightforward and easy.
Navigation around the package is also very easy. You can set times when you want it to run an automatic virus sweep or just do a manual one.
It will deep scan all drives and directories and when found it will alert you to the virus. After finding the virus it will then "quanrantine" it and "heal" your machine. We've had numerous "Trojans" downloaded from various rogue sites etc. and this software is absolutely brilliant at detecting and getting rid of them.
It runs in the background by which you can tell in your taskbar near the clock at the bottom of the screen. If its greyed out then its not working, when its in the famous AVG colours green, red and yellow you know its working.
Great free anti virus software that no computer should be without!

Perfectly fair review, but I have a bit of a reservation about the latest version - 7 - of AVG. It has slowed up my laptop terribly, and cannot be simply switched off or disabled, as far as can see. If I'm wrong, I hope someone will guestbook me with the secret ! _ thanks all the same for the review - Trevor
