Well, according to Yahoo it is ‘The easiest way for groups of people to communicate on the internet’. Basically, it is a way of posting messages (or e-mails), photos and files to a group of people with whom you have a common interest, e.g. a website, a hobby, an animal, a celebrity or an illness.

•• Why join? ••
For starters, it can be fun! You can meet lots of new people with common interests, ...
...yourself, you can find personal views on topics that interest you and you can stay in touch with friends and family. The facilities are all free, although you do have to put up with quite a bit of advertising, particularly when reading messages directly from the site. There are literally thousands of topics on Yahoo Groups, and if by some miracle you can’t find one that interests you, could always start your own.

Disadvantages: Can be restrictive

The principle behind a Yahoo Group is fundamentally very simple – an online facility for like-minded individuals to share views and resources. There are many other chat-room and messaging facilities available, but with Yahoo Groups (sometimes known as Gropes) you are provided with a simple to use facility that can be accessed via email, or via the website. Unlike most chat room sites, every message posted is archived so you can come back and ...
...The experience and usefulness of each Yahoo Group is very dependent on the subject matter, the number and quality of members, and the interaction between these members. Joining a Group =========== In order to join a Yahoo Group you must first be registered with Yahoo – the registration process is simple, and once registered you will have access to a Yahoo mail account, Yahoo Auctions and Yahoo Groups. There are essentially two ways that you ...

COME AND JOIN IN THE GROPING

Advantages: Help you contact millions of people, 1,000's of different subjects/categories.
Disadvantages: The Chat room can be problematic and some people find it impossible to load.

I’m damn sure that about 75% of users on Ciao have heard of “Yahoo Groups”, and at the same time, quite a big percentage of them will actually frequent the various “Yahoo Groups” available, or even have one started themselves, so I’ll aim this opinion at the other 25% of users, that are unaware of them. What are “Yahoo Groups”? Surely since you have been using the Internet, you have come across various ...
...like “Is there anywhere I can voice my opinions on a certain subject, to a group of people with similar interests” or “I wish I could get help over a certain problem, i.e. Computer related problems, etc”, well, that exactly what Yahoo Groups are all about, its an absolute massive collection of this type of places. Yahoo Groups includes a massive collection of forums, which cover all kinds of subjects, these are the categories ...

Making the world a smaller place

Advantages: Stay in touch with old friends, make new friends, learn more about your chosen hobby/interest, easy to set up and use, no spam
Disadvantages: Can get lots of mail, get your own mail back

Yahoogroups is a section of the mighty Yahoo website, which enables you to create or join a “Group” or “Mailing List”. For those not in the know, a Group is a single e-mail address to which subscribers can send e-mails, which will then be delivered to all those who belong to the group. The people in the group may be connected by all manner of things: a common interest in a pop group, TV show, celebrity or hobby (to chat about their interest or share ...
...simply a group of friends who wish to stay in touch. There are even groups for sufferers of particular illnesses to keep in touch and form support networks, or for people studying or researching particular subjects to share their findings. Yahoogroups offers this and much more, which I will come on to later! Each group has an owner and/or moderator(s), responsible initially for creating the group and subsequently for its administration – more about ...

Keeping up to date with your group with messages delivered straight to your in-box. That's what Yahoo Groups means to me. Previously known as E-Groups, these were recently taken over and became Yahoo Groups. I'm a member of two Yahoo Groups, one being a general friends group and the other being an exclusive little group called July 2000 brides. The July 2000 brides group came together when we all used the wedding forum at WeddingGuide.co.uk in the ...
...of starting an Yahoo Group for those of us who were getting married in July. ~~~~ The Changeover ~~~~ The changeover from e-groups to Yahoo groups was seamless as far as I was concerned. I must have deleted a message from Yahoo thinking it was junk mail because I didn't realise there had been a change. The first I knew about it was when I went to the e-groups site and was redirected to Yahoo Groups. Once there all I had to do was click the "Link ...

Wanted... Partners for 24 Hour Group Fun

Advantages: Good fun
Disadvantages: Lots of ads

Well, today’s opinion brings us to looking at Yahoo! Groups. We are going to take a look at the group service from three different angles. They will be as a groups user generally, a group moderator, and a case study of the Ciao_uk Yahoo! Group. Unfortunately, this doesn’t seem the best time to write this opinion since Yahoo! Groups are actually going to be offline for a few days this weekend, but that’s okay, because you will be ...
...that’s all done. A NORMAL KIND OF GUY Well, to start with we are going to take a look at Y!Gs from the perspective of what is just a simple user who signs in every day to see if there’s a new message in his group and perhaps fill in some of the polls to keep his account active. What Y!Gs are… Y!Gs are groups in which members of communities or with similar problems etc can join together, so there are groups such as disabled advice ...
