I recently bought some Self Adhesive vinyl tiles for my elderley neighbour, to freshen up her kitchen, as she wanted a change on a limited budget. She does not have much money, so i gave her the idea of just sticking down self stick vinyl tiles on top of her existing vinyl (it has been down 20 years, very clean still but a dodgy terracotta swirly design and makes the room look dingy). I recently purchased some luxury vinyl tiles for my home which i wrote a review about on ciao (Karndean Flooring) so i knew "vinyl tiles" were a great product, but as my elderley neighbour lived on her own and was not too bothered about interior design i set about on my mission to find a cheap self adhesive vinyl tile i could lay for her with minimul fuss and expense.

As i bought my vinyl tiles from www.flooring.uk.com, i knew they sold self adhesive vinyl tiles at a very cheap price and were a great company to deal with. So i found a pack of 6 lovely beige stone coloured tiles for a price of £6.98 that included VAT and the shipping is Free. They claimed to be cheaper than B&Q for the same quality and colour, so i just checked it out to make sure it was a good deal. I found that B&Q sold a similar colour at £7.98 without delivery and Homebase had the same deal, so as i dont have much time to shop the price of £6.98 from www.flooring.uk.com was the best and they were Marley Floor tiles and they could deliver them next day so i bought them from their.

The kitchen was 3.14 metres x 2.34 metres so i worked out what i needed by multiplying 3.14 x 2.34 to get 7.35m2, each pack had 0.54m2 in a pack so i required 14 however as i thought i would need extra to allow for cutting i ordered 15 to be on the safe side and i needed the extra pack in the end £104.70 it came to, which was a bargain for what i got just shows the internet has some bargains when you look hard enough. I have used www.flooring.uk.com twice now and they have some cracking offers!!

The tiles did come next day as promised. The next saturday, i went round to my neighbours and started working on the floor. The boxes of self stick vinyl tiles had instructions on how to lay them, so it was pretty straight forward. all i needed was a stanley knife and a measure tape. i first cleaned the floor and dried it then marked out the centre of the room and worked from there. In total it took me an hour and a half to install them. My neighbour is made up with them and they look fantastic, just like a real stone floor. they are fairly slip resistant and the adhesive holds really well, once the sub floor is flat and smooth the adhesive will stick without fail!! The only negative i thought about the tiles was that they are hard to cut around doorways and walls, thats what takes a bit longer than the main field. If the room fitted the tiles perfect then it would only of taken me 30 mins, but nothing in life is that easy haha.

So to sum up my experience with self adhesive vinyl tiles i believe for a cheap fix they are great, i would say that if i was doing up a property to sell or brightening up a room on a budget self stick DIY vinyl tiles are the way forward. If you want a designer look then go for Karndean or something similar as they look the part and will last longer. Just make sure you check out www.flooring.uk.com, they have better value tiles for the money and will save you a trip down to your B&Q or Homebase, as you will receive them next day.

We used Homebase tiles like these on our kitchen, from the cheaper range but they look great, were easy to put down and are lasting nicely.
