Advantages: Cheap fast internet, Video on demand. Disadvantages: Not as fast as some of the others
Homechoice offer two services - ADSL broadband internet and VOD. They are the only true Video on Demand (VOD) company in the UK. As long as you are within one of BTs ADSL eqipped areas, you should be able to subscribe.
VOD is you choosing exactly what you want to watch, and when exactly you want to watch it (exactly - not like Sky's movie box office where you choose the NEXT start time, could be a few minutes, could be an hour away...). The program ... ...ADSL line.
There are 9 'channels' you can subscribe to e.g. Film, News and Sound - these are NOT broadcast channels like Sky Movies, Sky News 24 and MTV, but they are like paying a fee to be able to rent any video in the Movie, news and music sections of your local video store, as many times as you want, for no extra cost.
Plus you also get high speed, always on, internet access for your computer (Mac or PC). The internet speed is currently only ...

Advantages: Quicker connections, Faster downloads and the phone line is not tied up Disadvantages: Slight problems with unreliable service
Homechoice is a true ADSL system, in that it can send video programmes down your phone line to your TV. However, the so-called "fast Internet Access" is a highly de-rated version, limited to 112 kBPS, or about twie as fast as a standard 56k modem.
Nevertheless, it is a good service. For £20 per month you get unlimited access to the web and other internet services. Your phone line is available for regular calls, even while your partner is on the ... ...This compares with £15 per month for standard dial-up with AOL, BTInternet or the like. The benefit of Homechoice is a slightly higher data transfer speed (I typically transfer at around 80k bytes per second, or 2 minutes per MByte, compared with around 5 mins per MB on my 56k modem), the availability of the phone line, faster connection (polling) times, and (for the technically minded) more security because of the NAT addressing system.
In addition, ...

Advantages: almost Sky Plus at a fraction of the cost - combined phone TV & boradband Disadvantages: Only available in limited areas
The last reviews for this product are quite old so I thought that I would do an updated one. This is a great combined broadband, telephone and television service. The telephone offers free evening and weekend calls to all UK landlines. The broadband we opted for is unlimited 2mb all with a TV package which I will go into in more detail later on for £42.99 per month. There are cheaper packages available and we might be reducing out TV package and ... ...The service is limited to people in certain areas of London and Peterborough at the moment, but they will be rolling out sopon to a wider area (although I don't know where or when!).
The phone and broadband packages are pretty good value for money but it is the TV that makes it worthwhile. You get mostly freeview channels and a few more like Hallmark, FX, UK Gold/style/etc, Paramount and a lot of music (though no Sky one - but Sky sports and Sky ...

Advantages: Reasonable priced broadband, digital TV and VideoOnDemand bundle Disadvantages: Bad customer service, unreliable technology
I wouldnt recommend Homechoice at this stage ... I signed up a month ago and have not enjoyed the service at all. During peak times the TV service stops several times in one hour and I have to reboot the box. Sometimes the broadband doesnt work at all and I have to wait a couple of minutes.
Last night I switched the TV on and the box didnt connect to homechoice at all. Its the third or fourth time that I phoned customer care and it always took about ... ...Care team is committed to answering 90% of all calls within 15 seconds. ... as per HC website - what a joke!). Apparently they cant fix it so the earliest that an engineer can come around is in 3 days time (obviously during working hours). So back to 5 programs and no internet for a whole weekend. Not my idea of leading-edge technology ... Unhappy HC customer! ...
