The site loads fast and then you are greeted with loud, awful colors that is enough to turn me off to start with but I decided to give it a chance. I usually use hotbot for surfing on technical terms, shopping as well. It seems that hotbot has teamed up with lycos since the search engine brings me to a http://www.hotbot.lycos website. Nevertheless, it always returns at least a search or give further suggestions in refining my search area. In one of the articles I have read, hotbot is the most popular search engine used by surfers. Hotbot is the search engine I use most often, more for convenience than any other reason. Although it can be slightly slow at downloading results it is an adequate for giving a broad overview of different web sites. I do find it does bring up quite a number of dead links which can be quite annoying and it doesn't appear to be updated all that often. I understand from web designers it is a difficult search engine to be indexed by although this could be just a personal opinion. However, for general searches I would recommend it. ... more

Hotbot.com is a nicely laid out search engine. The search field in in the correct place so that almost any browser will open it ready to use. In common with some other search engines, results include other links apart from actual web-site links. Unlike some other search engines, they aren't overpowering and are sometimes even helpful. One thing I would of like to of seen is a feature that Lycos uses to great effect. It has the sets of links available at the bottom of the page allowing you to jump straight to the say '20th' set of links if you find that there is too much repetition in the sites ... more

I used to use hotbot all the time, It was even voted the best search engine. However, it is now getting very old and slow and is having problems finding sites becasue there is so much junk in there. HotBot Is very nicely presented with an interesting colour scheme, but it is jsut getting a bit too old now. If I were you, i would use altavista instead, much faster and easier. Hotbot often comes up with dead links, old links, information not relevant and others. If you like good looks but not good quality go for it. But i am sure most people would rather have a good quality search engine that ... more
