I have had a portolio of shares for over 5 years now, and have always used yahoo as my first stop for information. I have found it to be:
Reliable - the site is always running, and downloads pages quickly with no popups.
Quick - Bit of a double edged sword this one - the portfolios I have stored here download quickly because they don't display much detail. If you have already done your research, however, that is fine.
Simple - Its easy to set ... ...in, and easy to call up more information about them. Links to the most recent news stories for each portfolio are displayed underneath the portfolio, which I find an excellent starting point for news stories. In addition, the graphs can be configured to display different timescales (1 day-2years), different price range information (bar, line, candle) as well as comparison to averages, indices and other stocks.
You can also format a graph page and ...

Advantages: Quick easy online mini statements Disadvantages: No control over account
Love the internet but I wouldn’t want to keep my money there. I bank with NatWest and, apart from the usual niggles, prefer the high street rather than gambling my limited funds against the chance of being sorted away by some cyberthief like the publicised breaches in security with Barclays and Egg online offerings.
Yahoo finance lets me look at, guarded with an extra security key over and above my yahoo password, a mini-statement online of my High ...

In comparison with the finance.yahoo.com site, this is a slimline version, with only basic functions available, from reduced graphs to no news ticker service, although it does offer a useful service in listing all of the major European Bourses and can be useful for someone managing a portfolio across Europe. The absence of a news ticker is one feature that is necessary, or perhaps possible a feature with the stocks NASDAQ/NYSE price. The service ... ...not in terms of amount of financial data shown about the stocks. The graphs are only very short term, which is not particularly useful, being really only glorified intraday graphs.
For anyone requiring addition detail, then you are better off consulting the websites of the individual stock exchanges rather than yahoo's attempt to be a composite site for all european stock exchanges. ...

An excellent web-site for people interested in stocks and shares. It gives you up to the hour stock quotes, but also is an excellent site if people want to research out companies. It gives you access to accounts of companies, for every quarter. But, above all it gives you easy viewing of progress of shares, in a graph format. Additionally, it gives you all the news for up to the last six months and recently for a company you are interested about. ...

Advantages: FREE MONEY ! Disadvantages: who needs disadvantages when you've got FREE MONEY...
...the site works is to visit the site, but, in a nutshell, you are awarded points - Each purchase you make earns you points - reach 3000 points and redeem your points for £20 of cash - (or shares - that is actual shares in the company themutual.net plc, a publicly quoted company listed on the London Stock Exchange. Today's shareprice: 64p ) for clicking through to various retailers, and (most times) buying stuff. The awards are based on a set % of spend for each retailer. the shares option is more of a long term bet, but they do seem to be performing pretty well - as I said, just check out TMN on any financial website (ie http://uk.finance.yahoo.com/q?d=t&s=TMN.L)
Overall, i love it, and visit every day....

Advantages: Better informed decisions for free Disadvantages: none
...Researching companies is now easier than ever, with the use of a computer and a modem. The question is which ones are usefull. I have subscribed to many but not all of them are very good. Here is a list of the better ones in my opinion. Both of these sites contain bulletin boards for investors and future investors to discuss any topics they wish.
For uk stocks and shares use iii investments at
http://www.iii.co.uk/quotes/search
For foreign stocks and shares use yahoofinance at
http://messages.yahoo.com/bbs?action=topics&board=12406952&sid=12406952&type=r
Both of these sites are free, you just need to register your name and get a password. The level of information that can be gleened from these areas is immense, and as we all know better informed decisions makes less of a risk.
Try them and see what you think, it costs nothing...
