iPod Video 30GB Black.
If beautiful electronics were currency then Apple products would be the million dollar bills, as Cuba cigars are rolled on the thighs of naked virgins, so are apple products crafted by Naked Angels, it's like they take, sex, chocolate ice cream and Silicon and where most companies would throw it in a bowl and mix, Apple caress, kiss the nape of the neck and massage each product into a beautiful work of art.
The iPod Video is no exception to the rule of beauty and sexuality the first thing you notice, is its Glossy, Glass like piano black shine yet the back is contrasted with chrome metal which shines and reflects all sources of light in every possible dimension in fact Einstein could quite possibly prove new theory's on the basis of how utterly reflective and glossy the whole thing is, well apart from the click wheel which is in matt black affair and thank god because this little beauty is going to scratch up like a cat in a bathtub of scolding water, but be safe in the fact your click wheel wont! Safe to say the first thing you buy once your purchase is a large steel enclosure filled with lots and lots of cotton balls, or a case either will do, the only other parts worth taking note of on the gleaming case (really I can't stress enough how much this thing gleams) is the hold button which also is metal headed and the Connection Port and Headphone port which are there for obvious reasons.
So Your IPod/s Turns Up in the post after being throw around a Royal mail van/train/plane and any other vehicle they can throw it round, its posted through you letter box even though the postie somehow had to bend it half to do that, but managed it, and your parcel sits there awaiting you to rein act Indiana Jones, and you do!, first thing you will notice is the fact it comes in tiny packaging with pictures of the iPod and examples of how you will use it like listen to Red Hot Chilli Peppers or Watch Pirates of the Caribbean, at least that's how Apple sees you doing it, and of course these have been legally purchased and not downloaded is mass bulk from various illegal Download sites, Of course not no one does that anymore!. Ok so you open the packaging and your immediately presented with your iPod all wrapped in plastic shielding with piracy warnings on there, also inside the little card box sleeves are a plastic sleeves containing, manuals (which are useless), Iconic White Ear Buds and iPod to PC Charger/Sync Cable yes like all previous iPods apple dot want you charging at the wall, well without at least paying for it extra, also the ear buds are rubbish invest in some nice comfortable and loud ones, the manuals are pants as its just basically EU and UK Legal Mubo-Jumbo and you are expected to either know how it works or go online and try and find your answers, but let's face it the iPod is easy to use isn't it?
ITunes - Your tunes, ok first things first you have it out the box took off that plastic protection and got your first couple of scratches and its plugged in your computer with the charger cable and its doing nothing, well that s because you need to go to www.apple.com click on iTunes and download the latest version, but can't I just drag and drop my music, err no you cant, iTunes from now on will be your God of MP3 and God of portable movies there are Demi Gods in this software arrangement but that's for you to find out when you need to do something iTunes limited software won't allow you to do. OK so iTunes basically is the place you rip your CDs and download your music tracks and TV episodes or movies, costing around 79p a track and up and up for TV and Movies, you must download TV and Movies as no DVD ripping is allowed on iTunes (go search you're Demi God) the software isn't bad in fact it's very good at arranging organising and listing your music and movies but it's just so darn restrictive because of those darn DRM Record and Movie Labels/Studios or maybe it's because of those darn pirates (arrr Jim lad) but it's certainly not the Ninjas fault! Anyhooooo basically you're going to need it, and some time and a little patient to rip all your CD`s to your PC once you have sorted things out there your ready to put your ear buds in and turn the scratch attracter on. Apple Logo shows on screen and your presented with your options of language time date and usual essential annoyances, once you have input everything the iPod demanded with great fury from you, it's time to plays some musical enjoyment or watch some eye candy, the menu structure is on a basis of scrolling with sub-menus from each main choice, E.g.: Music>Artist>Choice of Song or Music>Album>Choice of Song using the click wheel by simply rotating your finger clockwise or counter clockwise which guide you to desired results by actually depressing the Play, Skip and Menu buttons will result in an action to correspond to that, navigation is the most unique and fun thing about your iPod, along with you music and movies you have Podcasts, Games, Memos or Notes, Contacts and various options. Everything is displayed on a little screen which is high res and full colour and makes watching movies a joy, although a bigger screen would be welcome.
The sound quality produced is very good but his is dependent on the file conversion and compression rates and it also depends on you getting some decent buds.
So I've explained how it's made, what gods do what and how holding one in ones hands are like holding a wet metal pebble that scratch`s! , battery life will give you about 24 hours of music or around 4 hours of video, and recharging takes about 2 hours, make sure you shop around as prices vary greatly unless of course you looking for a personal engraving then it's the apple store only,
Overall I would say don't buy an iPod just for looks there are better MP£ players out there but not many and none look as good. Many have bad software and many have bad pc connection software all in all an iPod is very easy and nice to use and if you do go for it it's a safe bet ,
Advantages: compact, sleek, easy to use. Disadvantages: the shiny chrome surface scratches easily
The Apple Ipod video 30GB is the 4th Mp3 player I have owned and I must say by far the best. I started off with a Treo 30GB Flash Drive Mp3 player back when the main mp3 player market was those little 256 mb efforts which were awful if you wanted more than a couple of albums so the Treo was a must have for me. Unfortunately the build quality wasn't great and bit stopped working over time and then the hard drive failed completely. So I moved on to ... ...to buy into the whole ipod brand thing but this new video ipod in black had just been released and it looked pretty sweet. I decided after creative letting me down twice that I would give Apple a go. I already had an Apple Powerbook which i loved so I figured apple couldn't be a bad choice. I went for the 30 GB primarily because it was affordable for me and at the time 30 GB was going to give me some extra space for any new albums I bought/downloaded. ...

Advantages: Sleek sexy design, classic navigation, great intergration with iTunes Disadvantages: Battery Life (Video) and prone to scratches
The iPod 5th generation is known as the iPod with video support rather than video iPod. This suggests that a true video iPod may follow in the 6th generation. The first thing you notice when you look at this ipod is that it seems rather large compared to the previous design, this is however untrue. The screen has been enlarged and the click wheel has shrunk, and although at first it looks rather out of proportion compared to the 4G you quickly overcome ... ...keeps the sexiness of the iPod intact.
Music wise it is no different to other iPods, the battery life is great and will keep you going a long time (around 16hours). Video wise however you only get 2hours (4hours for 60GB models) You can buy external batteries but it doesnt feel as portable once external batteries are involved. The screen is great, I have watced a few movies on it and it is fine - not too small as many may think.

...small for normal viewing. This ipod is a "video" model but yet I can buy a PSP for a £40 less, have more of a screen area, and still be able to play games. Keep in mind you won't have 30 gigs of storage, but I have almost 4,000 songs and 10 music videos and still have around 24 gigs lefts. Who really needs that much space? Issue 2: The player uses a menu system that makes it very time consuming to find what you are looking for. Let's say you want ... ...by Song, Artist, or by letter. The problem is that by Song or Artist I have to use the ackwardly slow click wheel to get to "K" for artist seach. Or I would have to know the exact name of the song. The other way is to do a search and that will bring up everything that is spelt with K including song titles. They could improve this system by having a jukebox mode that allows you to pick the genre of music along with some of your favorite artists and ...

...only 21 years old an Ipod was a compulsory purchase for me. Before buying it I remember weighing up the proposed pros and cons, and deciding that the pros definitely outweighted the cons. Now that I have one, I thoroughly disagree.
I purchased the black edition during the Christmas of 2005 - it was very lightweight, just as slim as you had imagined, and very easy to use. As soon as I got home, I hooked it up to my pc and it was instantly recognised ... ...really disappointed me with the Ipod was it's ability to crash, for no reason, with no obvious reset button, or procedure. Often I would go to my Ipod, while rushing out of the door to my next lecture, hoping for a minute of 2 of the finest sounds in order to clear my head, only to find that it has crashed, and I can't remember how to reset it. When I say crashed, all the lights are on, but nobody is home, and noone has even considered writing this ...

Advantages: Loads of space, Video compatible Disadvantages: Very easily scratched
I've had my ipod for almost a year now and i couldnt live without it. I listen to it going everywhere and take it with me just in case i need it. I listen to it before i go to sleep many nights a week. I just love it.
Its just the right ipod for me because a nano wouldnt store all my music and podcasts on it and the next step up in the ipod video range would just be a bit too much and i would never use all that space. I love the fact i can watch ... ...season of scrubs on my ipod as well as a full season of the simpsons and a few movies. I have only just used half of the space up so im really happy with the amount of space on it.
The battery life used to be a real problem when there was no option to change how bright the screen is but now with the new software and that option i can watch a good few hours of video and still have lots of battery life left which is just right for me.
I have about ...

Advantages: A cracking design, light weigt without floating away, excellent sound, good screen, easy to use. Disadvantages: It doesn't come with much, accessories are expensive, captive market(it costs the same wherever you look), itunes software
...I finally bought one of the Apple iPodVideo in the hope of being able to carry around more than just a few CD's, and with the 30 Gig version I think I made a good choice. Over 1500 tracks on it so far and it's only at about 5 gig full.
The design, like most Apple stuff, is cool. The black version reflects light with a beautiful glint and the controls are simple yet so powerfull. They consist of one switch (Hold) which lock out inadvertent touches of the main front pad. This consists at first sight of five buttons, one central and four in a circle around the outer circle. A basic menu button allows you to move back up to the menu above your last choice. The centre button allows you to select in a sort of left mouse click style. Then the other three buttons allow your to fast forward, reverse or pause/play. Most also double up by say...

Advantages: Well designed, light, storage capacity, output quality Disadvantages: Cost of Accessories, Ease of Scratching, Video Conversion
...-=The Device Itself=-
Specifications (according to Apple)
Dimensions: 4.1 x 2.4 x 0.43 inches
Weight: 4.8 ounces
#The size and weight of the device really are incredible, it needs to be seen (well, held) to be believed
Screen: 2.5" 320 x 240 pixel TFT display
#The screen is a good size and the display is very sharp for pictures, video and general use.
Capacity: 30GB
#On mine, 27.8GB is usable for personal storage. This is more than enough for my music, photo and video needs.
Battery life:....Debatable
#It really does vary depending on how you use it (video playback and backlight usage really is a drain), also, I believe the battery meter measures the amount of time remaining, as opposed to charge remaining, as switching from video playback to music playback can result in an increase in battery life.

Advantages: Small, lightweight, and high quality Disadvantages: Easily scratched, a few bugs
...The videoiPod has all the features that made the previous iPods so successful, apart from the obvious addition of video compatibility. The videos are high quality and looks crystal clear. However videos drain the battery quite considerably, so dont expect hours of movies from it.
Another disadvantage is how easily this iPod scratches, although scratches are more visable on the black model than on the white.
I have also encountered a bug with my videoiPod where my iPod has refused to switch off for a while. This can be a problem if you want to use your iPod for the length of it's battery life.
Overall, although the new videoiPod does have it's problems, it is still one of the highest quality music and video players on the market, and in my opinion it is worth the money....
