iBOOD.co.uk "The Internet's Best Online Daily Offer"

Despite being labelled as a .co.uk domain, iBOOD is an Amsterdam based company and the URL is iBOOD.com. The company is active in 19 countries and it's basic premise is that it offers ONE product per day for sale at a reduced price. Sign-up with iBOOD for free and you'll receive an email notification each day containing information on the day's offer. The item will be available to buy for just 24 hours, or until the item has sold out.

What do they sell:

According to their website, they sell a range of "electronics, gadgets, cosmetics, sport and lifestyle items". This is true, in the last 12 days, I've received notifications for the following items:

Black & Decker Pressure Washer
AKG Noise Cancelling Headphones
Black & Decker Alligator Lopper
JBL On-Time Speakers/iPod dock/Alarm Clock (I own one of these already so at least I can confirm they sell good quality items)
Bosch Steam Iron
Samsonite Notebook Bag
Creative I-Trigue 3000i Speaker System
Lancome Men 2 in 1 set (Shaving Foam and Age Fight Cream)
Sony Walkman NWZ-A728 8gb MP3/Media Player
Calvin Klein Crave Eau de Toilette for Men
Kodak Easyshare Z1015 IS camera
Varta Battery Charger

Are they really bargains:

The prices quoted in the notification emails seem to be the RRP (Recommended Retail Price) in addition to their offer price. Of course, it's possible to buy products from many places at less than the RRP these days, so I'd say it's worth checking around the internet for competitor prices if you see something you're interested in. However, the difference between the RRP and the offer price is often huge, so I'm sure it's possible to really bag a bargain or two.

For example, the offer price for the Varta Battery Charger above is just 18% of the quoted RRP. The Black & Decker Alligator Loppers is 38% of the quoted RRP. It's a similar story for all of the items I listed above.

My experience:

*** UPDATED ***

So far, I haven't ordered anything so I can't comment on the availability, delivery, customer service yet, but the idea is a good one and if something comes along which I'm interested in, I would take the risk to order from them.

The website is quite nicely designed, simple but effective. The notification emails are are attractive, clear and informative. No complaints on the presentation side.

Although I haven't had a chance to use it, the website has an order tracking link (a good sign). There is an FAQ section which answers many basic questions and there is also a forum where you can ask for more information or just discuss things with other iBOODians (apparently), and there's also a RSS feed which you can subscribe to.
===========================

So, I did make an order recently, for a Mini Maglite (Mag LED), October 1st.

This product has come up a couple of times, I missed it the first time but thought a maglite would also come in handy and the price seemed good (£10.95 instead of the quoted RRP of £49.95, plus £7.95 shipping but this is for UPS tracked delivery so it's not too bad) so this time I decided to order.

Ordering was straight-forward (click the "I'll Take It" link in the email, see the picture below), log in, enter payment details. I used PayPal but there are several other options. Done.

I received an email confirmation the next day with information about expected delivery times (1-7 days), etc. as well as a payment receipt from PayPal.

On October 8, I received an email saying that there would be a delay in delivery and I would receive my parcel within the following week.

On October 13, I received an email saying that my item had shipped and the email had a link to UPS Tracking where I could see the progress of the delivery. All looked perfectly in order.

On October 15, it was delivered.

Summary:

*** UPDATED ***

I like the idea of this website, and I will be tempted to use it one day I'm sure, but until then I can't comment on the quality of service they offer. If anyone has used it or is tempted to based on my review, please add comments on the service, delivery, etc.
===========================

Now that I've used iBood I think I can safely recommend them. When I first got the delayed delivery message I did think "oh, here we go", especially as there was no reason given but I was wrong, it wasn't "here we go". They kept me informed, the item arrived within the updated timeframe and all seems fine. i've updated my rating to 4 stars.
