Advantages: None any more. Disadvantages: Unreliable pop mail.
I am writing about Ifrance.com because I have had a rather bad experience with this company. They offer free pop mail which was the pull in the first place because Google told me who did pop mail (a mail service where you can have emails delivered onto your computer through your Mail program such as Outlook Express or Incredimail.

I am writing about Ifrance.com because I have had a rather bad experience with this company. They offer free pop mail which was the pull in the first place because Google told me who did pop mail (a mail service where you can have emails delivered onto your computer through your Mail program such as Outlook Express or Incredimail.
At first, I found that Ifrance were reliable, and I liked the fact that I could access my emails from anywhere, although in the past couple of months, my experience deteriorated into a shambles because of their unreliability and increasing efforts on their part to help the consumer which in fact did nothing to enhance their popularity with me.
Giving ifrance their due, they did write and tell me about two months ago that I would have to redirect my mail because of problems on site, and this I did. Then, when the coast was supposed to have cleared, I went back to using Ifrance and in the last three months I must have lost more than 50% of my emails through their site changes and found it more and more disconcerting that their site was more often than not "out to lunch".
Ifrance offered me so much but I think that they went too quickly too fast and instead of offering one good service that works, they diversified into so many different areas, i.e. website hosting, family mail packages, chat, messaging, forums, and with the onslaught of viruses that have been prevalent in this place we call cyberland, they really could not cope, neither with the demand, nor with the threat of viruses, tightening up their security to such an extent that now even emails that I want to receive do not get through.
The layout of the site is pretty neat and professional although based in the french language, although mail, forums, etc., are universal words and it is easy to find your way around the site.
Their website area seems very professional and you can type in a name of a website to see if the name is available for you to use. Their tutorials are fairly advanced and good for someone wishing to create their little space on the Internet as well.
Navigation is fairly quick, although as I say, the site has had technical difficulties of late, and a lot of the time, you cannot get in to read your mail. Generally speaking, I found when the site was up and running it was reasonably fast, although this is not the case at the moment.
As for space, well you are allowed 20 MB which is a fair sized letterbox, although what they allow into your box is questionable and standard alerts from a site like Ciao tend to go straight into the rubbish heap never to be seen again.
I like the feature that you can redirect your mail, but what is the point of this when you cannot chose the mail you believe to be acceptable ?
Sorry Ifrance. You were good for a while but I really do have to give you the thumbs down for performance lately.
Advantages: Reliable, free, POP compliant Disadvantages: French language signup
Ok, so you need to be able to read just a little bit of French (upto middle school level, perhaps) to get your address, but that's all there is to it! It's POP3 / SMTP compliant and I've never, ever (knowingly) lost an email.
The only gripe I've got is that they used to allow nnnn@i-france.com as well as nnnn@ifrance.com and stopped the first without telling anyone!
They offer web site hosting - but only if in the French language for French nationals, ...
