Yeah Yeah, how? In my dreams! I ‘ve heard of all that before. Got my fingers burnt mate, dot com bubble burst, shares have plunged, can’t believe iii.co.uk is still around. They were the ones with lastminute.com who popped the bubble, hyped the share price up to epic proportions and raked in the profits at the IPO (floatation) Interactive Investor had £50 million odd squid in the bank, but they’ve sold out to AMP AKA ample.com but that’s another story.
Interactive Investor basically missed the boat when they opted not to start an integrated brokerage platform with their superb portfolio. They have now lost market share and a lot of subscribers, which may be their eventual undoing. They should have really charged for their portfolio services, but hey they had money to burn..
So why should you use iii.co.uk? Lets go for a tour…
1) The most informative knowledgeable discussion boards and users in the United Kingdom maybe in Europe. Looking to find information on a particular stock, then find it at iii.co.uk, or start your own. The users are so vociferous they have even started their own action groups against certain PLCs. Ask questions and get answers. But beware of rampers (those who claim the stock is going north, jumping high etc) and derampers (who want the stock to lower so they can buy or are feeling vengeful) You may be wondering how these posters can influence a stock, well the small investor is more powerful than ever before, he reads the boards he tracks the share, reads the rumours, press releases and plots the large buys and sells all contribute to his investment decision, and most importantly the herd mentality, there may be safety in numbers. So if someone buy/sell because of x, and a few people follow then a few more etc it could cause a snowball effect, with no one knowing why they are buying or selling! Be warned the only ones who can really influence the price are the market makers (the big boys)
2) Portfolio Oh yeah baby the best portfolio on the planet without doubt. Free as well. But to maximise its effectiveness subscribe to one of their two subscription products. I’m addicted to my portfolio, look at it all day long, I have streaming data which I can seem price change instantly and not with a 15 min delay. So what I hear you ask what the hell is 15 mins? Well in May I bought 20000 QXL shares at 5.75p a few weeks later their interim results came out, the share price rocketed on the premise of breaking even, profits and partnerships. For 20 mins the share price reached 12.5 p and then plummeted down to 7p I sold at 10.5p but without streaming data I wouldn’t have been able to make that price, as it would have been to late.
The portfolio has the following features 1) Price changes (last days price is the current price) 2) Current Bid (what u can sell at) 3) Current Ask (what u can buy at) 4) Volume of Trades (if the volume is high then the price usually moves) 5) Price alerts- email notifications of when your choose price has been reached 6) User consensus gives a snapshot regarding users sentiments to a strong buy, weak sell etc 7) Streaming trades with the subscription service, note large buys and sells 8) Company announcements i.e. email notifications when they hit general release i.e. CEO resigning, partnerships etc 9) Company fundamentals: This is a brake down of the companies assets, cash, debts , profit/ loss etc 10) Too many more features to mention!
ISA Centre Here you can search for an ISA or download a PDF to apply for one there is a superb ISA assistant that asks you various questions and gives you options and then displays all the ISAs closest to your chosen options.
Market shares centre
My first stop in the morning. Why? I like to see the winners those who have jumped the highest in percentage share value and the equivalent losers. Can also the most vibrant discussion boards or the most traded share in volume at a single glance. Of course there are Interactive Investors resident hacks giving you professional written articles on trading, portfolios and the general market sentiment.
Everyday finance
They are pulling this section down soon, no matter, this is the equivalent of a financial supermarket, with credit card comparisons, insurance quotes, mortgage calculators and more.
Last but not least is their email communication whereby you can receive their weekly emails, fund special offers and New Issues updates.
Advantages: Real time prices that flash Red and blue before your eyes Disadvantages: Too many people looking for a verbal fight on the bulletin boards
...each year since it began iii.co.uk (iii) has improved no end.
I use a number of investor sights everyday, but the site I use as my homepage is iii.co.uk.
The reasons.. many!
Firstly it is my impression after using a number of portfolio tracking sights from Uk-invest, ADVFN, sharepages, motley fool too name a few.
iii's is the best! You can track your stocks from a day too day basis, and for free. If you use there free service you get a 15minute ... ...if you opt for the subscription which I have since its launch about 6months ago, you get real-time prices on your portfolio.
This is great too keep track of movements during the trading day. I often find myself looking at the iii prices over the level 2 data I get from ProQuote and ADVFN.
iii does have a big sense of community amounst some of its users, however I feel since the dot com meltdown since march the bulletin boards have had a plague ...

Advantages: A great portfolio tracking tool, good discussion and useful broker research Disadvantages: No currency conversion calculator, maybe not a site for the die hard investment analyst
I am interested in Investment and have a portfolio which I like to keep track of. I had seen iii advertised in publications such as the Financial Times and never thought about using it. I only started using the site after a friend recommended it to me and showed me the portfolio tracking service. The portfolio tracking tool is definitely my favourite feature on iii, it must be seen to be appreciated.
The portfolio tracking tool allows you to keep ... ...equities, Unit trusts, Pensions etc. The tool gives you instant access to charts, news and discussion on investments you have chosen to include in your portfolio. The discussion boards on iii are very good with well informed investors leaving worthwhile information. The portfolio tracking tool also shows your total profit or loss you have made on all your investments as a financial figure and as a percentage. The information the site provides on ...

Advantages: Very comprehensive coverage of different types of investments. Disadvantages: "The value of your investments can go down as well as up!!"
Delusions of grandeur sent me to Interactive Investor International. Wall Street here I come. Gordon Gecko make way for the new kid on the block. Fetch the red braces. Sharpen your quill Bret Easton Ellis. The financial whizz kid needs a site to manage his portfolio. Now there’s a grand word. Portfolio. It means I have a lot of money. Portfolio. Only important people have portfolios. Portfolio. How it will impress them down at the Fox and Hounds. ... ...even more cache to the serious investor like myself. But why did I choose iii over all the other possibilities now on offer?
I wasn’t exactly a financial management site virgin. I had already spent hours and hours uploading my PEPs and ISAs, my bonds and shares onto the Daily Mail’s Thisismoney site. And it looked impressive when I had finished. Updated daily with a twenty minute timelapse from Lloyds, it would keep me informed of the ...

Advantages: Trusts updates in your portfolio, good all round resource Disadvantages: Not great for news, there are more comprehensive resources around
When i first looked around for an online centre where i could keep track of my investments i registerd with all of the major players in cluding Fool, Moneyworld (.co.uk) and Uk-Invest, but the only one that I stuck with was III. Why, well basically because it has a great Portfolio service. YOu sign up and within seconds can track your shares and, more importantly, your funds and trusts. III was when I signed up, the only site that tracked yuour trusts ... ...got to the stage now where I don't own any shares - I'm looking for a new set of investments - but I still check III daily to see how my trust has done. I even bought into the trust through III via their discount broker scheme.
All in all III is a good site, the news could be a lot better and the information on product comparison is not as comprehensive as Moneyworld, but as far as a general resource goes its pretty good and probably the best one ...

Advantages: Lots of features Disadvantages: None of them work
Shockingly SHOCKINGLY poor service.!!!!!
They're owned by the halifax so I thought it was a safe company.. Opened an account with them 3-4 months ago..
For the first month I could not log in.. took approx 15-20 phone calls, with each time a promise it would be sorted before it finally worked.
First time I tried to buy shares, the transfer function did'nt work, meaning I couldnt transfer funds from my bank to finance the purchase.. another 2 weeks ... ...the account.. but when I tried to purchase shares, I got an error saying I had no funds in the account, even though I had transfered cash and could see the balance on the same screen!! more phone calls.
Great.. everything seemed to be working, bought shares in 6 companies over the next few weeks. One of the companies issued a profit warning.. I tried to sell shares.. got an error saying I didnt own the shared, even though I could clearly see them ...
