iii Bulletin Boards - reader beware!

Advantages: covers the whole range of companies on the LSE
Disadvantages: open to BB saboteurs

Unfortunately the Bulletin Boards at iii have been overrun by both 'rampers' and complete idiots - probably out to sabotage the boards. Its a shame as when I first began to surf for fincial sites, iii was one that I regularly used and often gained decent share information from. The site itself is quite comprehensive - but it's big 'selling' point is it's Bulletin Board. Each stock has it's own. Some are well used - others hardly used at all. Depends ...
...if the stock has been in the news - or featured on other sites' boards. Companies such as well known penny stock PACIFIC MEDIA (PCM) - at the height of their popularity - have been known to have over 500 posings a day. Many of which, unfortunately are rubbish, but if you are a shareholder, it is a quick way to get into a forum about your company. III - standing still!

Advantages: ease of navigation / simple quotes system
Disadvantages: beware of those BBs

Well I have being a regular member of iii for quite some time now. In the beginning I enjoyed the financial news and stories very much. The BBs. very lively and interesting with lots of useful advice and opinion. Recently I have found the whole site to be almost standing still. The new issues board has gone quiet and beware of the silly comments filling other BBs. I am sure the iii management could take a stronger line with some of these people. ...

Full of rampers!

Advantages: free
Disadvantages: not very good

iii.co.uk were recently forced to hand over the details of some of the members posting on their bulletin boards to scoot.com who are considering whether to take legal action against them for slander. This is indicative of the unregulated nature of the iii.co.uk boards which are sadly full of rampers spreading unhelpful rumours and blatent lies. This is unfortunate because in amongst all this are some very helpful and intelligent posters, what you ...
...the dross to find the informative posts. I think the alternative is a site such as fool where the boards are closely monitored or something like advfn.com where you pay a small subscription to use their premium boards. Whatever the case take information you read on financial bulletin boards with a pinch of salt, do your own research before you invest. ...
