Advantages: Information about benefits, use at your own pace at home Disadvantages: Boring layout, most jobs need qualifications!

Well i have been using the jobcentreplus website for around 3 months now, i think the main reason is it gives me few jobs relevant to what employment i am seeking at the minute. I also use it as i dont like the jobcentres and i think the staff arent particularly helpful, so i prefer to search for jobs from home using the website at my own pace.
The site has currently been updated, which i think could have been better and lot more work put into it, but its not too difficult to find your way around it. It ranges from helping you search for jobs to giving information on benefits, skillseekers programmes and jobcentre locations etc.
The site is a bit boring tho, plain colours and not much too look at other than a lot of text which can be offputting to readers. I mainly use the site to find new updated jobs in the area i live in. you can search for jobs by category, keywords, or by reference number ( if you have found a job already that you are interested in).
You then continue to typing in your area postcode and select how many miles within the postcode you would like a job. i find that most of the time the results that come up are no where near where i have searched for, or even the job type that i have selected, which is very frustrating. some of the jobs are occasionally past the closing date which is a downfall, especially after ringing the jobcentre and discovering this as it doesnt state the closing dates on the site.
The jobs that come up range from unqualified to qualified jobs, but the majority of the time the jobs require qualifications of some sort. this is no good if you dont have any, and you will find that the number of jobs without them drops dramatically, therefore making the website no more helpful than the local paper.
if you do manage to find a job which is useful to you then there is a number provided for you to ring, most of the time its the jobcentre, or sometimes you can ring the employer directly. the jobs listed on the site dont give out any information of what company it is, so you have to ring up the jobcentre and find out, but sometimes there are few exceptions when the employers name is listed.
if you find a job you are interested in, after ringing jobcentre they send you an application for you to send back to them or the employer, or alternatively they give you the number of the employer to ring them directly.
you dont need to register to search for a job on the site, however if you found a job you wanted to save and view later, or save your searching criteria, then you do need to register. its free and takes two minutes.
I have been using the site for a while and it can have its useful days, so dont be entirely put off. but i wouldnt really recommend short fused people to use it or people with little patience as it can be slow and come up with jobs in another country when you searched for jobs in your home town!
the job centre website overall is O.K! i wouldnt say its great for looking for jobs, but i wouldnt say its terrible either. it is useful for any information you are looking for on benefits and there are downloadable leaflets aswell which could be a plus.
The job centre website gets a 5 out of ten from me! (Even though i still search on it, which i guess says something!)
Advantages: No registration required Disadvantages: Doesn't work on a mac and is very slow
This site is the product of the JobCentre trying to put their jobs database online. The upside of this is the jobcentre is one of the most widely known places to find work and there are a wide variety of companies placing their job adverts with them, the downside is the very bad design and the limited detail and incomplete or very outdated job listings.
You can search for jobs by job type, title etc or by keywords (such as experience needed). You ... ...number if you've already found a job at the JobCentre you wish to look up.
There's no registration involved which means you can get straight into searching although you then can't save your searches or have updates emailed to you. There's also a wide variety of jobs from entry level up to moderately paid jobs.
There's also advice on looking for a job and benefits information although my advice would be to visit your local jobcentre to search for ...

Advantages: Modern site, great search engine, saves a trip to the local job centre Disadvantages: Jobs out of date and not updated reguarly.
At present I absolutely hate my current job and have been trying my upmost to find a job that will enable me to be less stressed and earn some more money.
After registering with a number of recruitment agencies and not having any luck, I decided to evaluate the service of the job centre plus website and the actual job centre.
I logged onto www.jobcentreplus.gov.uk and the site which is green and red and really makes you feel positive that you are going to find a job for you.
I clicked on the option to search jobs now and an advanced search came up asking for a job group, job list, and then finally a job title after selecting Travel and Tourism and all jobs I proceeded to click on the next option and it allowed me enter my postcode and the maximum distance that I would like to travel from my postcode. Next is a list of jobs ...

can't stand figures steer clear.
I said earlier that I had a permanent position, well I have two at the same time!!! The irony is I have been busting my balls trying to get a permanent job for two years and when I do have an opportunity I get two of them. One of them I got via Office Angels and the other I got by applying from an ad in the newspaper. I have chosen the one I got of my own accord for various reasons and not because I would still have to pay the agency for three to six months till I do officially become permanent. I mention this because I would like to point out that you cannot leave it all to the job agency to get you a permanent position, or at least I couldn't because there wasn't a queue outside my door offering me jobs. I had to keep buying the weekly job newspaper and keep going to the jobcentreplus.gov.uk ...
Advantages: Free service to job seekers and employers Disadvantages: Just because it's free doesn't mean it's any good!

Try and use the computerised job points when you're waiting to sign, it can kill time and also you might just find a job that you can apply for. They're very easy to operate (with on screen instructions). You can also look for jobs if you have internet access via their website: http://www.jobcentreplus.gov.uk/JCP/index.html and then clicking the "Looking for a job?" link. It's not the best designed website in the world but it does what it needs to.
AS AN EMPLOYER
Job Centre Plus has a facility whereby employers can advertise their jobs for free and get suitable candidates' CVs sent to them. There is no cost for this service - but there is a catch and this is a big catch (I'll come back to that in a bit).
It should be easy enough, if you've worked as a recruiter in any capacity you know that you submit the job details to ...
