I bought this shopping trolley for my god sons birthday and decided it was such a good toy that I had to get one for my daughters birthday.
The leap frog shopping trolley is like no other toy shopping trolley I have seen before. It comes fully fitted with a scanner and game settings which I will tell you about shortly.
This shopping trolley is mainly green and yellow in colour with some blue and red and is made of strong durable plastic.
Also with your shopping trolley you recieve ten items of shopping as follows; (all of which are mad out of strong, durable and colourful plastic) 1 carton of milk 2 chicken drumsticks 3 banans 4 carrots 5 packets of cereal 6 eggs 7 cherries 8 cup cakes 9 green peas 10 strawberries
All the items of shopping have some sort of magnet or something inside them so that when you scan them it knows what you have scanned.
Now in front of what im going to call the basket ( where you would normally put your shopping) is a control panel, on this panel is a frog, volume controll, your very own scanner and an activity selection.
What does the frog do? Well when you twist him he says hello and then he sings a song about going shopping, quite a catchy tune really.
Volume control? Every parents blessing, as with most toys there are 2 settings.
Scanner? This scanner looks just like the ones they used to have in Safeway/Morrisons stores but without all the buttons.
Activity selection control panel? You have 4 choices - Game, Learn, Explore and Off.
Game mode. ------------------ In game mode it will tell you what items you need to make certain dishes and it will ask you to go and find them and it will also give you clues as to what they look like. For example it will say lets make dinner, we need cherries and strawberries. When you scan the correct item it will say things like nice job or well done. To start again just press the frog and it will ask you to find some more items.
Learn mode. ------------------ In this mode when you scan an item it will tell you what you have scanned and tell you how many there are and then count up to that amount. For example. 7 cherries. Count along with me, 1,2,3,4,5,6,7. It may also say something like we have more cherries than bananas.
Explore mode. -------------------- In this mode when you scan an item it will tell you what you have scanned and how many there are and then it will tell you something about that item. For example if you scan the milk it will tell you that milk comes from a cow, or it might tell you that milk is full of calcium or even tell you that milk makes your bones grow big and strong.
Off. ----- And we all know what this one does. Shuts it down untill next time we go shopping.
Now if your child also likes to push the trolley round the supermarket like mine does then this is the perfect size for little people.
This shopping trolley is for children age 2+ and will cost you around the £40 mark, unless your lucky enough to get it in the sale like myself and then only end up paying £20.
My opinion. *************
I think this is an excellent toy that will bring many years of learning and fun. Although Kelsi has not yet reached the reccomended age group for this toy she still gets much pleasure out of playing with it. Although she does not properly understand what it is all about, she has the right idea and knows how to use the toy when it comes to scanning items. I also believe that as Kelsi is starting to talk properly that she will pick up things like counting from this toy with my help. Also seeing my god son play with this toy, and being in the correct age group for this toy, I have seen him learn alot from it, and he is always telling us little facts that he has learnt from playing with it. He always tells me that he drinks his milk because his shopping trolley told him that it will make him grow big and strong and little things like that. It has also helped him with his counting and learning all about different food types. This is definately a toy that I would reccomend to anyone who wants to encourage there children to learn.Please note that this toy is recomended for children of ages 2 upwards and not 3 upwards as stated in the specific criteria.
