When LetsBuyIt.com first started advertising on tv I was on their site like a rocket.
For those who don't know what LetsBuyIt.com is all about, it's a website that offers money off all types of goods - the amount being dependent on the number of people who choose to buy the goods.
It was an instant hit, for me, and millions of others. The only problem was they went bust at the end of last year. They are back in business now, but there were 3 months between the new year and march when they were completely inactive.
My opinion, which I'm afraid is a negative one, is not a complaint about their financial difficulties. This couldn't be helped, and who am I to kick off about that. In fact many people think they had one of the best dot com business plans around. They just weren't efficient.
No, my opinion is about their inability to deliver the good to the people who ordered through them just before they came into financial difficulties - including me.
Up until the end of last year, I had used letsbuyit.com numerous times, and they had never let me down. I ordered. They delivered. They even took back one item without any questions being asked when it wasn;t what I wanted (but I think that was down to the person on thier customer service desk wanting to keep things simple!) So I had no hesitation in using them for finding my fiancée's sister a birthday present. I found one - a DKNY bag and placed the order, and waited... and waited... and... oh, they've gone bust. Bugger.
So I emailed them, and waited a day for a response. No reply. I email them again. Still no response. So I phoned them - only to get an automated message telling me they were unable to take calls at the moment, and to email them. Hmmm... I wasn't happy at this point. I felt like I was helpless. Then I though about using BTs directory enquiries to find out their headoffice number - which I did, and phoned them. Yippy, a real person I could speak to! The gentleman on the phone was able to confirm that letsbuyit.com were having fincial difficulties and decided to cease all trading, including deliveries. He also told me that the goods were in stock, and are waiting at their warehouse, ready for them to resume normal business. I asked how long, and he said 'we hope to resume normal business next week'. So I sat on it for a couple of weeks, and nothing arrived.
By this point I was getting rather annoyed. I had to appologise to my fiancées sister for not having her present. They'd taken my money out of my account before Christmas, and it was already half way through February, and I hadn't received my goods. I was pretty sure I wasn't going to get them either. So I phoned them on their headoffice number to try and get an update on my order - only to get the same pre-recorded message that I got on their main enquiries number! That was it, short of making a trip to London and walking into their offices (which were probably closed too), I didn't know what to do. There wasn't anything I could do. I just accepted their comment in their FAQ on their website which stated that they would resume deliveries as soon as they resume normal business, and waited.
Towards March, they resumed business - 3 weeks after my fiancée's sisters birthday that the goods were intended for. I thought "Well better late than never I 'spose". Hmm... I think I had dug my own grave saying that. I looked more closely at their website, only to find that they had taken the decision not to carry out any deliveries left over before they went into difficulties - even though they had the goods in stock! They decided they would refund everyone instead. I phoned them again, only to be told "the decision was made by letsbuyit.com not to deliver any goods, and that you will be refunded. The goods in the warehouses have been returned to the suppliers, but feel free to order them again if they appear on the site in the future". Gee thanks.
What a complete waste of time. I know this is unlikely to happen again for letsbuyit.com, and I wouldn't want to deter people from buying from them at the moment, as I found them very good up until they ran into financial difficulties. I simply want to speak of my experience during this time, and hope that it may be heard so that it doesn't happen to anyone else in the future.
Used them once myself - to buy a DVD player. In the end, I gave up waiting, spent 4X as much in a local shop on a better player and sold the one delivered by letsbuyit to a mate. Terrible service and attitude to their customers.
