Ordered 15 DVD ROM drives, 1st they sent me someone else's order (a keyboard) then they sent me 15 HDD caddies and agreed to refund. Sent items back via post office with proof of postage as asked, 1 parcel (the keyboard) went missing now they refuse to pay me my £400 order value, as although the post office ticket shows 2 items, they say that how do they know I didn't split the DVDs over 2 boxes and return just that order. They can't say that is what happened, just that the manager says it could have!
They refuse to let me speak to this manager (he sits making decisions in the background), and so far have not responded to any emails.
Have resorted to taking legal action to get money back as they seem to operate in their own world of fantasy.
If you are looking for cheap items with no real value and can get them in store then fine go ahead there's little to no risk involved, if however your looking to buy on-line or buy anything with significant value that could go wrong, then forget it, they are a bunch of cowboys with no idea of customer service.
They put T's & C's in place that actually provide them with excuses to not pay you if they don't want to.
Cover your back, make sure there's no loop holes or possibility of them questioning anything you do, as no matter how ridiculous their arguments are, they still hide behind them.
Similar problem happened to a friend; he ordered a Skype phone as it said there were 10 in stock on-line, nothing arrived a week later, he was told it had been shipped, then 3 days later it hadn't shipped, when calling he was told they were out of stock (on-line still said 10 in-stock) so a refund was agreed after they confessed that the stock was not auto update and just hadn't been done (so you can never rely on their stock levels as accurate), 3 weeks later (still no refund) another phone call, but they now say he has to accept credit note to use in store and should never have offered a refund, even though they never shipped the item he paid for, and they took the money under false pretences . He too is now taking legal action against them as they refuse to budge on the matter.
There will always be loads of people that have 100% reviews of this place because everything goes well, but it's when things go wrong you find out what sort of company you are dealing with. Hope this helps open a few eyes to what sort of company Maplins are.
That's always the problem with ordering online or over the phone. You never get that handover exchange to finalise it. Only reason I rated 'helpful' and not 'very helpful' is that you're reviewing the website and there's not much content on it in terms of navigation and presentation other than the obligatory checkboxes you filled in at the end of the review. Other than that, an important review for anyone thinking of using maplin.
