I use mapquest.co.uk as opposed to mapquest.com as I only really need to find travel directions and maps within the UK. All you need is the road name, city or postcode or all of them and it'll quickly bring up a map of where you're looking for. The only thing is, if you only know the road name or postcode of the place you're looking for, it'll bring up lots of maps along the road, and it could get confusing. Equally if you're just looking for a road, without a town, you'll get loads of search results. It's best if you can narrow down the search.
More usefully, you can also request travel directions based on similar information. You can request it in one of 9 european languages, and chose between the fastest, shortest, or the non-motorway route. The instructions are clear, and concise. You're also given the total distance (in miles and kilometres), and the estimated journey time, which is excellent. You can also reverse the directions, and download the information onto a handheld pc. you always get a little map to help you on your way, which prints well as it's in bold colours.
All in all, it's a cool, good looking website
BUT...it's crazy...
I asked for directions from my house to my boyfriends. The "shortest" directions were infact a longer distance than the "fastest" directions. also, the "fastest" directions took more time than the "shortest" directions. Not a problem really as there were only a few metres/minutes in it. Just a small amusement, which I'm sure is caused by errors in road lengths and timings etc, which won't affect your journey. I've used both of the routes I found, and indeed, mapquest's "fastest" route was fastest, and the "shortest" was also the shortest.
Mapquest is a good, reliable website, and I'd definitely recommend it.
